JUMP ROPE FOR HEART!
The American Heart Association visited with their Scare Squad to kick-off Jump Rope for Heart! Students enjoyed a 3D roller coaster ride (view it here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FhXqEmR7DYA) which reminds us of how easy it can be to take care of our hearts. We hope you will join us as we work to help save lives and support the American Heart Association.
Our school has set a goal to raise $6500. If we hit that goal the coaches will tricycle race the teachers whose classes get the most donations!
Also, the Grade Level that gets the most participation will earn a Disco Lunch!
WE ARE 50% to OUR GOAL
Earn Jax instantly with your first $5 donation!
Earn Charger and Jax with your first online donation of at least $10!
Add Disco to your collection when you raise $40 online!
Students who raise $150 online by Mar. 1st at 7 am will earn our Plush Jax on Mar. 2nd @ GMM!
Visit www.heart.org/jump or download the Jump/Hoops App (App Store for iPhone or Google Play for Android) to join our school’s team!
(psst—the monsters come to life through the app!)

WHAT IS THE HEALTHY ZONE SCHOOL
RECOGNITION PROGRAM®?
The Healthy Zone School Recognition Program® is designed to recognize schools that have excellent health programs and to support schools looking to improve health programming (Healthy Zone Schools). Schools are invited to participate in the program after going through a competitive selection process. Schools participate in the program for three years, during which eligible Healthy Zone Schools are given the chance to apply to become Exemplary Healthy Zone Schools. It is a goal of the program to support all schools in achieving their health goals and to help each Healthy Zone School become an
Exemplary Healthy Zone. During their time in the program, schools receive support and resources from the United Way of Metropolitan Dallas and The Cooper Institute® as well as share best practices.
ABOUT the Project : Saturday, March 24th
As a first year In Training Healthy Zone School - Coy Miller Elementary, will be
utilizing resources to transform our playground to a creative, interactive and
educational space that provides enjoyment for our students during recess.
The elementary school playground is a mainstay on every campus - it’s a memorable
and popular part of every student’s elementary school experience. To have the ability
to make substantial enhancements to the playground that give an amplified experience
for the individual student, the payback is and will be substantial for years to come.
Students love to get outside for recess. With this stencil addition, students will thrive
and enjoy that time even more when their playground becomes an interactive
movement zone. Game boards, jump and locomotor patterns, four-square, hopscotch,
and even “My Plate” nutrition interactive activities. This project will positively shape
children’s physical activity behavior during recess and activity time and provide a
significant increase in children’s engagement in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA) during recess. The opportunities will be endless and substantial for a school environment where learning is student centered and with a special focus exercise and nutrition. The addition of this playground makeover for our campus and students will be a dynamic improvement and have long-lasting effects on our school community.
Paint Day is a great way to build community, school spirit and have a lot of fun! Best of all, everyone knows the end result is something special for the kids!

Message from Nurse Johnson
Dear Miller Parents,
We are still in the midst of flu season here in North Texas. As a reminder please keep your kids home from school for the following reasons. Information is found on the FISD website under Health Services.
· Temperature of 100 degrees or above. A child must have temperature below 100 degrees for 24 hours before returning to school without taking a fever reducing medication.
· Signs of severe illness, including fever, irritability, difficulty breathing, crying that doesn’t stop with the usual comforting, or extreme sleepiness.
· Diarrhea (3 or more episodes of loose stools in 24 hours). A child must be diarrhea free for 24 hours without the use of diarrhea suppressing medications.
· Vomiting two or more times in 24 hours, unless a physician feels the cause of vomiting is not an infectious disease and the child is in no danger of becoming dehydrated. A child should have one or two meals without vomiting before returning to school. Your child may be sent home from school for vomiting one time.
· Questionable rash until a physician has determined the rash is not caused by an infectious disease.
· Known communicable disease must be treated for the appropriate amount of time as directed by a physician.
· Recommendation of a physician or school nurse.
**It is NOT too late to get the flu vaccine. The single best way to protect your children from the flu is to get them vaccinated each year.
**Stay away from sick people and stay home if sick (Please see above FISD guidelines). It also is important to wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand rub.
Here is a helpful link to the CDC regarding the flu and taking precautions to prevent the flu. I am also attaching a parent guide to the flu. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me. thank you! Leesa
