Hello TCE Families,
Speech and hearing screenings are conducted at the beginning of each school year. Speech screenings are completed with kindergarten, first, and second grades. Hearing screenings are completed with kindergarten, first, and fourth grades. Students who are new to HSE will also participate in speech and hearing screenings. We Are Learning...
Reading
In reading next week, we will be focusing on learning and applying expectations for reading workshop. This is the time set aside in our day for growing as readers! We will learn how to make appropriate book choices, how to set a purpose for reading, and how to think and talk about our reading before, during and after we read! We have also discussed that readers need to think about how a book should be read. This can be done by taking a sneak peak through the book or even by checking out the table of contents.
Writing
In writing next week, we will work on learning and applying expectations for writing workshop and building our writing community! We will learn to see ourselves as writers with important ideas to share and stories to tell. We will learn about different ways to write and set a purpose for our writing. We will also explore how to talk about and share our writing with others.
Wednesday of this week we completed our on demand narrative writing assessment. The class was given 5 minutes to plan their writing then 30 minutes to complete it. They did a fabulous job and this will be a great tool for me to guide daily writing instruction, set goals with, as well as celebrate growth at the end of the year! I'll plan to share this during our student led conferences in the fall.
