Marie Murphy Principal Message

Attendance and Tardy Emails

Cultivating academic growth starts with positive attendance practices at school. In the next few days I will send out attendance and tardy updates to families of students with 10 or more absences/tardies for this year. This notice is a requirement of the state and is intended to support the school and home partnership.

As a mom I greatly empathize with the parental effort it takes to get middle schoolers out of bed and to school by 7:50 each day. Thank you for all you do to support positive attendance practices with your student!

Panorama SEL Survey

On Wednesday students will take the winter Panorama survey in Advisory. This survey serves to support our SEL work with the students. If you would like to opt your student out of this survey please complete this form.

Giving Tree Project

Calling all gift givers!

The Roots and Shoots club at Marie Murphy is sponsoring the Giving Tree project again this year. We will support children in our own community who are in need this holiday season. If you would like to sponsor a child please follow these simple steps:

1. Sign up using this link.

2. Receive a wishlist of what your child wants

3. Go shopping

4. Wrap your gifts (or Roots and Shoots club member will wrap them for you)

5. Drop your gifts off at Marie Murphy

Viking Fund Donations Needed

The Viking Fund provides families facing hardship with financial support to cover all or part of Avoca's athletic, Science Olympiad, band, orchestra and school play fees. With the help of the community, our students will be able to continue to participate in these activities. Thank you for your support!

Avoca is considered a charitable organization for tax purposes.

A 3.56% service fee will be charged for credit and debit card payments

Coin Wars

Message from Student Council:

The Marie Murphy coin wars is a friendly fundraiser competition between first period classes with the goal of raising the most money for charity. Every cent from a coin placed in your class's jar is worth one point. Every cent from a bill is 1 negative point!

Remember, coins are positive, bills are negative. The class that gets the most points in the entire school gets a pizza party. The grade that gets the most points gets a donut party.

Coin Wars begins after Thanksgiving break and it goes until January.

Winter Gear Reminder

We plan to go outside everyday for recess unless it is below 15 degrees. Students should dress for the weather and bring:
  • Jacket
  • Hat
  • Gloves
  • Boots
  • Snow pants (optional)

If a student is not dressed appropriately for the weather we will have them remain inside.

NWEA MAP Winter Benchmarking
