Sra. Hillmon's Clase de Espanol

For all aspiring Spanish language learners

Get ready to have lots of fun learning to speak Spanish and communicate with your friends.

About this class

This beginner's Spanish class is intended to teach you the basic skills and give you a sturdy foundation to prepare you for taking Spanish for high school credit. I expect that each of the students will speak a little Spanish each day and will gain an understanding and appreciation of the Hispanic culture. It will be full of a lot of new vocabulary and some challenges, but I will be there to help you every step of the way.

My Classroom Expectations

Students are expected to participate in all aspects of the classroom environment, including our digital Schoology classroom, in order to advance their knowledge of the Spanish language. Students are expected to be positive, respectful, attentive, and prepared for all class meetings. For a safe classroom environment to exist, name-calling and any other offensive and disrespectful actions will be strictly prohibited and will result in immediate disciplinary action. It is also expected that students do not bring food or beverages to the classroom, especially not gum. Students are expected to treat the provided classroom materials with respect and must make a habit of cleaning up their workspace.

This class is designed around using all available technology to help you learn to the best of your abilities. That means that iPads will be used almost every day, and they must be charged and ready to be used. In this class, we will visit a wide range of website and use several apps, so it is imperative that students have their iPads charged and ready to used each day that they are present in class. Students who fail to bring their iPads to class will have to reproduce all of the digital handouts on a piece of notebook paper, which they will later transfer to the computer once they have their iPads again.

Each student will be expected to create and maintain a Google Drive Binder where he/she will maintain and save all of the writing assignments. Additionally, the a lot of the class communication and assignments will be distributed through Schoology, and students are expected to check the class website daily.

Since the iPad is our primary textbook/writing space, students are expected to treat them with respect and to take the best possible care of them at all times. In addition, students are expected to use the iPads appropriately and follow the technology rules presented and posted in the classroom.

Daily Classroom Materials

Students are to have the following materials every day:

  • Charged iPad
  • Loose-leaf paper
  • Composition Notebook (Vocabulary Notebook)
  • Pencil / Pen

  • Google Drive Binder: Students will be keeping a Google Drive Binder for Spanish. The binder should not contain notes or assignments for any other subjects. Students will need to access the Google Drive Binder every day. The Google Drive Binder will be graded on a regular basis.
  • Class Work: Students will complete all class work using Schoology and their Google Drive Binder.
  • Projects: Students will work in groups to complete one projects every 3-4 weeks.
  • Homework: Students will NOT be assigned daily homework; however, projects will require additional time outside of class.

Absences and Late/Missing Work

If a student has an excused absence, he or she will be able to make up the missing assignments without a grade reduction within two weeks of returning to school. If a student has an unexcused absence, he or she will be able to make up the missing assignment within two weeks of returning to school, but will face small grade reduction as a consequence for not turning in the assignment in a timely manner.

If a student simply did not complete an assignment or turn it in by the deadline, he or she will still be able to complete and turn the missing assignment in. However, no late/missing assignments will be accepted after 15 days past the due date. After the 15 days, students will be assigned an alternative assignment to make up. To make up for additional missing points, the student may bring in extra credit that is available to every student throughout the year. It is up to the student to ask Mrs. Hillmon about the extra credit opportunities and to get it in at least one week before the end of the quarter.
