Dear Jackie Robinson K-8 Community,

Hope everyone had a restful weekend!

1. Our SBAC (State Testing) window will open this week. Thanks to the 60+ families that joined Dr. Hosn for our SBAC informational meeting this past week. Please take a look at the flyer below. We want to encourage our families to send students to take the tests in person. A reminder that this year's SBAC is for diagnostic purposes only and will not be held against students. The amount of questions have also been reduced. If you have any questions regarding SBAC, please call the school and ask to speak to Dr. Hosn. Elementary and Middle School Instructional setting changes will be postponed during SBAC testing.

2. Kindergarten Enrollment: Robinson is actively seeking in-coming kindergarten students for the 2021-2022 school year. Please help to get the word out and encourage others to consider Robinson as their school.

5. Early Out Thursdays/Elementary- The new early out dismissal times on Thursdays for elementary are: 10:00 am for in-person students and 1:30 pm for online-at-home students. Please mark your calendars, as there is no after-school supervision.

6. IMPORTANT: EMERGENCY CONTACT UPDATES- All families are reminded to update their emergency contact information in the ParentVue, especially with students who are returning on campus.

7. Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week- I want to highly encourage you to find a way to show our teachers some love and appreciation this week. They are deserving of that and so much more. A letter, email or any other way you can show your appreciation for all that they have done during this most challenging year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR TAKING THE TEST AT HOME

How To Take a Remote Test

HELP YOUR CHILD SUCCEED:

  • Make sure your child gets a good night’s sleep and a nutritious breakfast before testing.

  • Reach out to your school and talk to your child’s teacher, counselor, or administrator

  • Encourage your child to answer all questions by making an educated guess when they are not sure about what the correct answer is.

  • Do not attempt to help your child during the test by clarifying instructions or providing answers to questions.

  • Discuss the test with your child.

  • Set expectations.

  • Create a quiet place where your child can take the test.

  • Remind your child that the test results are only one way to show learning.

It’s Ms. Denise and I want to let you know that I’m back! Back for FUN and ADVENTURES from the WRAP program to help make Virtual Programming for our JROB students something for them to look forward to!

I’ve compiled a list of activities that I’m sure will have them asking for more! For example, courtesy of the California Science Museum, I will be playing the role of “The Gross Scientist! The kids will be learning things like Sticky Snot, Let It Rip (Why do farts make sounds?), Spill Your Guts (Why vomiting is important!), and Germ Busters. For these and other hands-on activities, WE will provide the kids with the supplies needed for the activity.

We will recognize some Fun Facts of the day (Chinese New Year, Random Act of Kindness Day, Make a Friend Day, and more!) For Friday’s Fun Day, we’ll do some singing and dancing to end the week on a good note!

There will also be Yoga and Stretching classes, along with instructions on how to make a healthy snack, and The Boys & Girls Club will be providing the necessary supplies/ingredients!

**IMPORTANT COVID-19 SYMPTOMS UPDATE**

Please note that a headache as the only symptom is no longer a COVID-19 symptom.

However, If your child has the following symptoms he/she will need to stay home until I or our health assistant have cleared him/her to return school:

  • FEVER/CHILLS

  • MUSCLE/BODY ACHES/FATIGUE

  • CONGESTION/RUNNY NOSE

  • LOSS OF TASTE OR SMELL

  • SORE THROAT, COUGH OR DIFFICULTY BREATHING

  • NAUSEA/VOMITING

  • DIARRHEA

If your child is experiencing any of the symptoms above, please keep your child at home and call the school. Follow up with your medical provider. In order to for your child to return to school, one of the following criteria must be met:

Your Child CANNOT return to school until he/she has met ONE of the following requirements:

  1. Your child has tested negative for COVID AND 24 hours have passed without a fever (or fever reducing medication) AND symptoms have resolved. ATTACH a copy of negative COVID test ❏

  1. A healthcare provider has provided documentation that the symptoms are typical of an underlying chronic condition (e.g. allergies or asthma) OR a healthcare provider has confirmed an alternative named diagnosis (e.g. Streptococcal pharyngitis). ATTACH a copy of doctor’s note ❏

  1. If your child has not tested or tested positive, then the student MUST complete at least 10 days of isolation (from the time symptoms first appeared) AND the above symptoms have improved or resolved AND has been fever free for at least 24 hours (without a fever reducing medication).

***Student MUST be cleared by school personnel before returning to school***

CLOSE CONTACTS/School-aged household members:

Due to the congregate nature (of household contacts) and high risk for outbreaks, we will continue to send siblings and other school-aged household contacts home to quarantine. The LB Health Department states that anyone with COVID like symptoms is a "Probable Case". Household contacts will need to quarantine at home for 10 days after last exposure to the sick sibling and/or COVID-19 positive person (or probable case).

A 🎵 from our MUSIC Teacher Ms. Sanchez

Hello middle school families, if your middle school student is returning to school in-person, and is in band or orchestra, your student must bring their instrument, and book to school. Additionally, students must have the LBUSD Music Consent form completed. This is posted in their Canvas music page. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Additionally, I am excited to announce that my family band is now playing every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at the restaurant "Casa Adelita" in the city of Paramount. I am there every weekend if you ever want to listen to mariachi and eat good Mexican food.
