Crabapple Crossing Elementary
January 12, 2017
Dr. Rachel Williams, Principal
From the Principal
What a week we have had welcoming your students back to school in the middle of icy conditions on Monday! The good thing is, we all survived the day and everyone was safe.
I hope you had a terrific holiday break and welcome to 2017! We are excited to begin second semester. I have to begin by saying the picture above means so much to me. I have watched these two girls grow since first grade and they are both super students. Their families are dear to my heart and it just so happens we captured this moment in the cafeteria on Tuesday. Clemson, of course, won the National Championship Monday night, so with about three hours of sleep, I woke up Tuesday elated! It was so fun to see the excitement in our students and staff. I am beginning to see more orange around here and that makes me happy. I have said before, my love of football began in elementary school when I started going to home games with my family. It’s a tradition we continue to this day. Many of you share similar traditions and these are the memories your kids will take with them even into adulthood. I hope you treasure those as much as possible.
Parents, we need your support to make Career Day successful. Many of you have such interesting professions and I encourage you to make some time on January 27th to visit a few of our classrooms to share your expertise. Please see more in my newsletter below. If you cannot attend, but have some ideas on presenters or speakers from the community, please reach out personally to Ms. Lundy.
Our staff continues to pray for Mrs. Shamblin who will be having surgery tomorrow, Friday. You all have been wonderful at sending things in for her this week. We promise to make sure she get these items. I know I speak for her when I say she appreciates everyone’s generosity and support. Please continue to send items in to the front office and we can secure them daily.
Tomorrow is a CCES full release day. Students do not report as our teachers will be in staff development. Also, Monday is a holiday as well. We look forward to seeing our Colts back in action on Tuesday! Have a fabulous long weekend.
December Employees of the Month
Congratulations to our December Employees of the Month, David DeStefano, teacher, and Susan Lubatkin, PE paraprofessional. Mr. DeStefano, or Mr. "D" as he is commonly known, does a great job of teaching music to our students as well as leading chorus and the Orff group at CCES. Mrs. Lubatkin works with the PE department and helps make sure that our students have a safe and enjoyable experience in PE.

Career Day Volunteers Needed!
Career Day will be on Friday, January 27 from 8:00-10:30 AM. We need volunteers to present about their career for approximately 25 minutes to a few classrooms. A light breakfast and refreshments will be served at 8:00 and presentations will begin at 8:30. By filling out this form, you are committing to the two hour time frame of 8:30-10:30. You will not be presenting for the full two hours, unless that is your request. I will send out a presentation schedule as we get closer to the event. Please sign up below to let us know about your career. We look forward to seeing you on Career Day!
Georgia Parent Survey
The Georgia Parent Survey was included in several issues of our newsletter last fall and 126 parents have completed it to date. We strongly encourage all parents to participate because the data will be used as part of the calculation of the School Climate Star Rating.
The Georgia Parent Survey is modeled after the student survey and contains 24 questions. Parents may complete the survey using their personal computer, smartphones or tablet. Survey responses are anonymous and will be submitted directly to the Georgia Department of Education for analysis. Results from the Georgia Parent Survey will not be available to the public and will not be posted online. The URL address for the Georgia Parent Survey is posted below.
