In "Otter" News - Week #6 (B Week)
For the Week of 10/4 - 10/8
Message from the Principal
Our otters have been busy this week! Be sure to check out some of the activities they have been involved in this week in the pictures below.
As we increase our use of laptops this school year, a couple of reminders that we are giving students here at school that would also be helpful for them to hear at home. These actions show Safety First of our P.A.W.S. expectations.
- Be sure to hold your laptop correctly with two hands when moving around the classroom or through the building.
- Be careful to place your backpack down gently when your laptop is in it.
- Carry your water bottle in your hands when your laptop is in your backpack or keep your water bottle in a different place in your backpack to prevent water damage.
Don't forget that Picture Day is Tuesday, October 5th! More information is available below.
Finally, I want to give a shout out to our building service crew of Mr. Brooks (Manager), Mr. Somerville (Assistant Manager), and Mrs. Lee. Thank you for being an important part of the care of all our otters every day! Mrs. Butner's PreK class took time out of their day this week to say thank you and show how much they appreciate Mr. Brooks showing Act Responsibly and Work Hard each day!
Otterly Yours,
Ms. Dietz

MCAP Information
Oakville students in fourth and fifth grades will work on Maryland Comprehensive Assessment Program (MCAP) tests in September and October. The MCAP assessments were postponed from the Spring to the Fall due to COVID-19. The tests, shortened from the normal Spring assessments, will be administered in Math and ELA. Oakville instructional staff will use the results of these assessments to help us better address student needs caused by learning disruptions in the last two school years. Our OES students will take their assessments by homeroom, on the following dates:
- Mr. Zeier
- ELA- Oct. 5 and 6
- Ms. Massengill
- Math- Oct. 4
- ELA- Oct. 7 and 8
- Ms. Boomer
- Math- Oct. 4 and 5
- Ms. Reining
- Math- Oct. 6 and 7
Thank you for helping your Oakville Otter to do their best by making sure they attend school on their assessment dates, get a good night's sleep, and a good breakfast prior to their assessments.
More information can be found in the PDF linked directly below. Any questions regarding MCAP should be directed to our School Site Testing Coordinator, Mrs. Reineke. She can be reached by calling the school at (301) 373-4365 or emailing her at kmreineke@smcps.org.
