Tiger Family Newsletter Nov 2023
All the important deets to stay in the know!
A Note From Mrs. Gold
May It Be of Benefit
Hello Tiger Families,
It was wonderful to see so many families on campus for parent-teacher conferences. There was so much growth to celebrate, and it is so important to partner together to develop goals and commit to action steps to keep students on track for success.
And now, here we are with just a few weeks to go before the winter holiday break. I cannot overemphasize the importance of continuing the habits, routines, and commitments we've made throughout these busy and distracting days before Christmas. That said, it's easy to get overwhelmed during this time of year, so please give yourself grace when you need it, plan a few less activities, and keep your expectations (of yourself, your children, and Santa 😉) reasonable.
Wishing you all very happy holidays,
Mrs. Gold
Leader In Me
December- Habit #5- Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood
We have spent the first few months of school learning Habits 1-3 which focus on our personal character development. Then, we moved into Habits 4-6 which take us outward from focusing on our inner development (character) to our interdependence with others. With last month's Habit #4 (Think Win-Win), we began to change our thinking to believe that there is plenty out there for everyone.
Habit #5 will help us understand and believe that we can have greater (positive) influence with others if we truly understand them first. We will achieve this change in our thinking by practicing empathic listening and respectfully seeking to be understood. At home this month, see if your family can use these steps to really listen to each other:
- Listen without interrupting.
- Listen to other people's ideas and feelings.
- Look others in the eye when listening and talking.
- Try to see things from other people's viewpoints.

Holidays are notorious for raising unwanted emotions. Whether it’s a loss, financial strain or unstable relationship; sadness, regret and anger are common to all of us.
Start this season by gifting yourself with a plan.
You Decide
You Follow
You take credit
Examples might be:
Plan for those who ruin your plans.
Now what?
Maybe: A big cup of hot cocoa and relax with the free time.
Plan for the “not enough” guilt trying to bombard your Holiday.
Maybe: Get a piece of paper and write down a realistic budget. Then step back and remind yourself kids 0-12 LOVE the greatest gift of your time (games, legos on the floor, baking, snuggling with a holiday movie) and your happy heart.
Plan to honor those you’re missing.
Maybe: Wait till everyone is in bed and light a candle and remember the 5 top things you are thankful for. Breathe in slowly, hold them in your heart and exhale.
Plan for_________________________________________.
You get the idea. Emotions are real, they just don’t need to drive your Holiday bus in circles. Jump back in the driver's seat and direct them to those back seats
You’re welcome. The hot liquid chocolate in the largest holiday mug with enormous amounts of whip cream is one I use to destress every season.

PTO Holiday Shop
Our PTO is hosting our annual Holiday Shop 12/11 - 12/14 here at Shasta Meadows!
This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to get into the holiday spirit of giving and not just receiving. If you're unfamiliar with this program, students will have the opportunity to shop for some pretty awesome gifts at some rock-bottom prices. A flyer should be coming home soon with more detailed information on how the shop works, with a list for your student of whom they would like to shop for.
If you like to sign up to volunteer you can may do so here HERE. Any amount of time that you can spare- an hour here or there, would really help make this so special for our students. We couldn't do it without the assistance of our wonderful families!
