------------------------------------------------
Here are updates for our Middle School students and families. Please reach out if you have any questions.
Eighth Grade Dance: We are excited to share that we have been able to secure a DJ and have reserved the tent at the High School on Friday, June 4th for an end of the year 8th grade dance. The dance will occur from 7:00 - 8:30 PM. All eighth grade students, regardless of whether they are currently attending school in-person or in our all virtual model, are invited. While we understand students may want to get dressed up, please do not feel as though you need to go out and purchase formal clothing. Dressing nicely in school appropriate clothing is perfectly fine.
Fall Sports: If you are an incoming 7th or 8th grade student and are potentially interested in participating in Volleyball or Cross Country in the fall, please take a few minutes to complete this Google Form.
Fun Run: Please remember that we are holding a Virtual Fun Run on June 2nd and will also have trivia, prizes, and games throughout the week.
Last Day of School: As another reminder, Wednesday, June 9th is the last day of school for all middle school students. Students will be dismissed at 11:15 AM that morning. Previously the Board of Education updated the district calendar and moved the last day of classes from June 10th to June 9th. This was to avoid students having Wednesday off only to have to attend on the morning of the 10th.
Library: We are nearing the end of the year. All library materials (books, magazines, dvds, and audiobooks) will be due on Friday, May 28th. Students have been informed of this by email (for virtual students) and in-person students have also received a verbal announcement from Ms. Baker of the deadline and the items they currently have checked out. In addition, you may have also received an overdue email from me earlier this week.
In-person students can return their materials on the cart located inside the doors at the front of the school or in the return box outside of the library. Ms. Baker will continue to circulate to homerooms to collect library materials as well.
Students can log in to Destiny Discover with this link to see what materials are still checked out to them. They simply need to choose Sign in with Google, click on the 3 lines on the left (Settings) and select Checkouts. Any Lenovo, HP, Samsung or Acer items listed are chromebook-related and do not need to be returned to school until the last week of school.
We are still quarantining books for a week so you may still see items on your child's checkout list that were returned last week. We do make mistakes, so please email Jacci Baker (at bakerjacci@mhasd.k12.wi.us) if you are questioning any of the items on your child's list. Thanks!
*Virtual parents--if it is a hardship to return books to school before the last week of school, you are welcome to wait until the chromebook return days on June 9th and 10th (see those details below). We can be flexible since it is an extra trip for you to return library materials.
Ms. Baker
Student Council Gardens: The Mount Horeb Middle School Student Council is creating gardens for the middle school this spring, and is looking to raise some money to help build them! We are looking to build 6 raised garden beds between the middle school wings and fill them with flowers and vegetables over this and future years! Our goal is to raise $700 to cover the costs of buying the materials. Any donations that you are willing to send can come to the middle school office!
We have some incentives from our Student Council Advisor as well! Once we get halfway to our goal, $350, Mr. Miller will wear a Halloween costume for the whole school day that our Student Council has chosen, and once we make it all the way to our goal of $700, Mr. Miller will make a TikTok!
Any questions about the gardens or donations can be sent to Mr. Miller at millerbrad@mhasd.k12.wi.us
Yearbooks: Due to us needing to postpone school pictures until April, yearbooks will be arriving after the school year has ended. We will email families with a pick-up date and time once they have arrived. Any student who is unable to pick up their yearbook in the summer will receive it when they return to school in the fall.
Virtual Student Material Collection
Virtual Student Collection of Student Materials:
We are asking that any district materials such as Chromebooks, textbooks, library books, and other school building or district materials are returned on June 9th from 1:00-4:00 PM or June 10th from 8:15 - 11:00 AM.
Linked here you will find our Chromebook checklist. This is the list that our technology team will be completing/verifying for each of our District Chromebooks. A paper copy of this will be mailed to your home for completion. Thank you for taking a few minutes to complete this form and return it with your school issued Chromebook at the end of the year.
As with similar material pick-up/drop off, please place your child’s materials in a box or paper bag - clearly marked with their name and grade level - in your trunk.
You can stay in your vehicle and a team member will collect the materials from you.
If you, or anyone with whom you have contacted, has been ill in the past 14 days, please do not come. We would be happy to make alternative arrangements when you are feeling better.
If you have more than one student, please visit each building for drop off/pick up of materials.
*We want to be flexible. If the times listed cannot work in your schedule, please do not let that stop you from coming to drop off your child’s items in the Main Office on Friday, June 11th between 7:00-3:30 PM.
