Fully Present. April 21, 2022
Moving Along with Mrs. Maddox
Dear St. Joseph Families,
During the month of April our students are studying the Virtue of Temperance. Throughout the day, we are all given opportunities to grow in Temperance. I can’t think of a better place than school (the classroom, the playground, the cafeteria, even CYO athletics) for our students to learn how and when to make good decisions. The temperate person is not bound by their instincts or desires, they know how to use the right judgment to make good decisions about “little” things and “big” things.
Our school environment allows students to help grow in perseverance and gain sustainable coping skills that will help them later in life. All though it is so hard to watch our children struggle, we know and understand that failing is the best way to learn problem-solving skills. Temperance is a virtue that must be practiced, practiced, practiced …. but once the virtue is strengthened, a person can successfully develop right judgment. This helps us make “little” or “big” decisions, with clarity! The temperate person experiences freedom, joy, and peace in the pursuit of goodness. Wow! What parent doesn’t want that life for their child!!!
This week our First Graders renewed their Baptismal Promise, and our Second Graders participated in their Jesus Retreat in preparation for their First Holy Communion. As we all continue to practice the Virtue of Temperance, our teachers continually create daily moments of reverence and holiness within their classrooms to help bring our faith to life. What a special place we have to raise our children and care for each other.
Happy Easter! Alleluia, Christ has risen … FOR US!!!
With a Grateful Heart,
Jodie Maddox
