A midmonth peek at the happenings around WMS
A Message for Mr. O'Halloran
Hello, WMS Families!
We have passed the halfway point of the first marking period! Interim reports went out last week, and interims remain open to allow our teachers the opportunity to communicate any updates regarding your student's progress. It takes every member of our community to ensure our students' success, so please communicate with your student and their teachers if you have any questions concerning their work.
We have several events and activities planned for the benefit of our students and the greater WMS community over the next few weeks. Please check out our Events page on the school website to stay up-to-date. You can also find some information on them below.
Everyone knows the best way to make the most out of middle school is to get involved. We had such an incredible turnout at our Club Fair on September 20th, that I hope every student has found a place to express themselves, develop talents and interests, and make strong connections with their peers. If your student is staying after school for a club meeting, the late bus is running Monday to Thursday, every day, from now until the end of May. The late bus leaves promptly at 4pm, and we make two announcements for students taking the late bus to make their way to the front of the building with their belongings so they don't miss it.
Finally, we are super excited for our softball and baseball teams! We're proud to announce that WMS Girls' Softball is in the playoffs! Come out to support the Warriors as they take on the Avenel Wildcats on Monday, October 16th at Woodbridge High School. The game starts at 6pm.
The winner will face Colonia Middle on October 18th, 6pm, at Colonia Middle School.
Also, the WMS Boys' Baseball team finished the season in first place! They'll be in the championship game this Wednesday, October 18th, at Woodbridge High School against the winner of the playoff between Fords and Colonia. The game starts promptly at 6pm.
Thank you and have a wonderful, safe, and restful weekend.
Mr. O'Halloran

Looking Ahead: School Violence Awareness Week
During School Violence Awareness Week, October 16th - 20th, WMS will participate in three activities: a grade level assembly in the auditorium, the creation of a human peace sign on the school campus, and sharing messages of thanks and appreciation with our building's security officer, Mr. Sims.
WMS Welcomes Ms. Moore to the Science Department
1. Tell us a little about yourself, your family, and where you’re from.
My name is Ms. Moore, but students may know me as the teacher with the snake. I grew up and still reside in Old Bridge. I have a relatively small family with two siblings and a handful of cousins.
2. Where did you go to college, and what degrees do you hold?
I went to college at New Jersey City University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Biology and Education.
3. What classes are you teaching this year?
This year I am teaching 7th grade Biology and 8th grade Earth and Space Science.
4. How long have you been teaching, and how long at WMS?
I have been teaching for 3 years now. This is my first year at WMS and I'm so happy to be here!
5. What’s your goal for your students this year? What about for yourself?
My goal for my students this year is to find a connection to science either as a personal connection or maybe completing a memorable lab activity that they can look back on and think, “Wow, that was a fun day in science class”. My goal for myself this year is to connect with my students and make them feel that room 209 is a safe space where they matter and their voices feel heard.
6. What’s your personal mantra or favorite quote?
A favorite quote of mine would be, “Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.” I like this quote because it is from the Lorax and directly talks about conservation of resources which is very important; but we can also use it to think about the way we treat others.
7. What your hobbies?
My hobbies include crocheting, seeing Broadway plays, and visiting national parks as well as Disney parks.
8. What’s a fun fact about yourself?
A fun fact about me is that I’m currently training for the 2024 Walt Disney World marathon!
9. What are you currently reading in your free time?
In my free time I’m currently reading the Lord of the Rings, The Fellowship of The Ring. As I'm reading the series I’m also completing a virtual marathon series as I read that has you walk or run the path they traveled through the books!
