News & Updates - April 2017
Dear Families,
Happy reading,
Natalie
Reading Without Walls Challenge

Challenges
2. Read a book about an unfamiliar topic.
3. Read a book in a different format than you normally read.
Rationale
Visible Thinking in the Library
Visible thinking routines aim to uncover and enhance students' thinking in relation to several areas of understanding. It's never too early for metacognition! Some of the routines used so far this year are illustrated below. (They work at home, too!)
Library Calendar
April 27 - Poem in Your Pocket Day
May 7 & 8 - Forest & Mountain classes vote for the Forest & Mountain Reader's Choice Award (FMRCA)
May 15 - Winner of the FMRCA announced at Settling In
May 15 - 18 - Last week of library checkout
May 23 - ALL LIBRARY BOOKS DUE
May 24 - June 1 - Library inventory
June 5 - 8 - Library open for summer checkout - with parent permission
Overdues & Lost Books
- If you believe a book to be lost, please contact Natalie to determine the appropriate course of action (replacing the book or paying the replacement fee).
- If you are still looking for a book, please keep searching! Your child may continue to check out books in the meantime.
- If you believe a book was returned, let Natalie know - we can look for the book on the shelf for you.
Summer Reading & Checkout
New this year! If your child would like to check out books from the Lower School Library to read over summer break, contact Natalie to let her know and give your permission. You can stop by in person, leave a phone message, or email. All books checked out over the summer will be due the first week we are back in school in August.
