Lower School Library

News & Updates - April 2017

Dear Families,

We are wrapping up a great reading year in Lower School and getting ready for summer reading! Seven weeks and counting...

Happy reading,

Reading Without Walls Challenge

Visible Thinking in the Library

Teachers go to school, too! Natalie is taking the Visible Thinking course (with Katie and Abby) through Project Zero at Harvard and implementing the thinking routines with various groups of students.

Visible thinking routines aim to uncover and enhance students' thinking in relation to several areas of understanding. It's never too early for metacognition! Some of the routines used so far this year are illustrated below. (They work at home, too!)

Overdues & Lost Books

Overdue notices were sent by email today. Please look for and return any books listed.

  • If you believe a book to be lost, please contact Natalie to determine the appropriate course of action (replacing the book or paying the replacement fee).
  • If you are still looking for a book, please keep searching! Your child may continue to check out books in the meantime.
  • If you believe a book was returned, let Natalie know - we can look for the book on the shelf for you.

Summer Reading & Checkout

The last library newsletter of the year (coming at the end of May/beginning of June!) will include the annual recommended summer reading list (2015, 2016) as well as next year's Forest & Mountain Reader's Choice Award list, which is created by the students. Be on the lookout, too, for a special summer reading activity and ways to connect with your local libraries!

New this year! If your child would like to check out books from the Lower School Library to read over summer break, contact Natalie to let her know and give your permission. You can stop by in person, leave a phone message, or email. All books checked out over the summer will be due the first week we are back in school in August.
