What is Response to Intervention( RTI)??
There are many programs in place to support students in our school. For example, our school guidance counselor supports our seniors as they maneuver through the college application process and our school social worker supports families during stressful times. Another support comes from a process called Response to Intervention( RTI). This student support process can be initiated for a variety of reasons, e.g. reading, math, behavior, language, etc. Any teacher, administrator, or parent, can initiate an RTI. A core group of teachers, named the RTI Team, is invited to each meeting: other teachers and specialists may be invited as needed. The process is a system of meetings to develop and review interventions on behalf of a student. Meetings usually take place at 6-8 week intervals. Interventions are employed at increasing degrees of frequency and intensity, if needed. The RTI process may result in students continuing to have frequent and regular classroom interventions, or if warranted, the child could be referred to Special Education services.
