BHS Trial Remote Learning Day!
For Buchanan High School Only
Tomorrow is Day 2 of our Remote Learning Trial
- We will need to utilize all means of communication to notify our families. We will send notifications by phone calls, texts, and emails, as well as using our social media outlets and website.
- For our trial run days, students must login in to their Google Classrooms and complete their assignments BEFORE 11:00, not beginning at 11:00. It would be most helpful for students to complete their assignments by the time their normal class period is over.
- We have a running list of students who will have a hardship if we do go full remote due to lack of internet. Luckily, that number so far is very small. We are determining a plan for those students.
- Teachers who have not heard from students by the designated time, will make phone calls to touch base with students. It is very important that a contact number is shared with each teacher.
When we convene again on Monday, teachers will be speaking to their classes about their experiences. We must remember, that all students will be given a grade this year, regardless of whether or not we are in person or remote. Teachers will be giving students ZEROS for assignments not completed. It is essential that students stay in contact with their teachers at all times.
We hope these two days of trials runs are helpful for you as a family, and we will welcome your feedback on Monday as well!
Don't forget a FREE luch is provided in our student parking lot from 11 - 11:30 tomorrow!
BHS REMOTE Trial Runs (October 8-9)
October 7, 2020
Dear Buchanan High School Families and Staff,
In light of recent positive cases at Buchanan High School we would like to make an effort to be proactive and maintain continuity in our academics. Buchanan High School will be PRACTICING REMOTE LEARNING over the next two half days to better prepare if the scenario should arise in which the district would have to implement remote learning. This trial run is in effect for ONLY BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL. All other buildings in the district will run as normally scheduled. Athletics and other extra-curricular activities will also continue as normally scheduled. Buchanan High School Students (only) interested in picking up a free lunch may do so in the student parking lot, on both days, from 11:00-11:30.
Students will not be reporting to the building, but will instead be required to login to their Google classrooms by 11:00am. Teachers will have assignments posted by 8:00am for all classes. Attendance will be taken through Google Classroom, so it is important that every student complete the assignment given for each of these classes. Students failing to complete the assignment will be entered as ABSENT per our Attendance Officer.
Since these next two days are half days, students will only be required to login to three courses per day (hours 1-3 on Thursday and hours 4-6 on Friday). This practice run will ensure that we have most of the kinks worked out before an emergency strikes and we have to do remote learning for an extended period of time.
Due to these days being scheduled half days, all CTE students who are off campus do not have to attend, but may upon choosing. However, in a full remote situation, students would still be required to attend their off campus classes. Math and Science Center students will have transportation available as normal for these next two days.
We hope to find this exercise in caution and preparedness helpful and welcome your feedback next week to share your experiences with us.
Again, please remember that ONLY BUCHANAN HIGH SCHOOL will be practicing REMOTE LEARNING on October 8-9, 2020. Athletics and other extra-curricular activities will also continue as normally scheduled.
Ottawa, Moccasin, and Buchanan Middle School will have face to face, normally scheduled school days and transportation will be provided as usual. We hope to have a trial run for these buildings, as to remote learning, in the near future.
We thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
Stacey DeMaio, Principal
Patricia Robinson, Superintendent
