STORM INFORMATION
As you all must be aware, Hurricane Dorian is brewing and is a threat to South Florida.
Holy Cross will follow the lead of Miami Dade County Public Schools with regard to school closings. If they close, we will be closed. Please watch the news for the announcements. At this time it is too early to predict what might happen.
To clarify, the the public schools close, we will close.
If the storm does hit our area, Holy Cross will reopen when power is restored, plumbing is working and the property is safe for children. We will send you an email and a text alert to notify you of the status of school opening.
At this point, you need to take a wait and see approach. So, please wait and see. I can not give you any specific answers at this point.
Happy Friday, Holy Cross Family
We have concluded 2 weeks of school. They have been awesome! I hope that we can keep up the great behavior, positive attitudes and awesome teamwork all year. I promise that I will send a very newsy newsletter next week complete with pictures, but to save time this week so we can prepare for the storm, I will only tell you what you need to know.
If I had to give only one word on advice for how you can help your child have the best school year possible, it would be for you to READ EVERYTHING and BE INFORMED.
Here are some things that you need to know:
LABOR DAY, MONDAY, SEPT. 2ND - NO SCHOOL OR OOS
BACK TO SCHOOL - CURRICULUM NIGHT
Thursday, Sept. 5 Beginning at 6:30PM in the church
3rd - 8th grade
(We are still planning for this but of course it will be dependent on what happens with the storm)

PTL Meet and Greet and Potluck Dinner: Tuesday, Sept. 10th
Beginning at 6PM in the auditorium.
Bring a dish to share, see old friends and make new friends.
BACK TO SCHOOL - CURRICULUM NIGHT
Thursday, Sept. 12 Beginning at 6:30PM in the church
PK-2nd Grade
SHED YOUR THREADS:
Friday, Sept. 13th $1 Donation. Students may wear non-uniform clothes and shoes to school for a $1 donation to a worthy cause. No sandals or boots. Clothes must be school appropriate.
I-READY: very shortly, after the placement test is completed, your child will begin working on I-Ready. Each child is responsible for completing 45 minutes per week on I-Ready. This is for a grade. To get full credit, they must pass for the week with a 70% or better. This should not be a problem because based on the placement test, they will each be working at their own level.
Dress Code: We have been very lenient for the 1st two weeks as we have many new students and parents. Sufficient time has been allowed at this point. The kids look great, but we still have some students who are wearing shoes and outerwear that do not fit the dress code.
EARLY DROP-OFF IN THE MORNING: If you are one of the parents who brings your child to early drop-off, please do not drop your children off before 7AM in the parking lot to wait by themselves outside without supervision. Early care opens at 7AM in Room 17. If you arrive before 7AM, you must wait in the car with your child. Then, please watch as they safely enter the room. These students are then escorted to the cafeteria around 7:25AM. This week, Ms. Innocent has arrived several times to find children alone in the front of the school. Please do not do this. To clarify, any student who arrives at school before the doors are opened must go into room 17. They may not wait alone outside until the door is opened. If you do not want them to go into Room 17, please bring them after 7:20AM.
SPEECH LANGUAGE SCREENINGS: If you would like for your child to be screened for speech/language issues, please return the form that was sent home. This screening is free. If the screening determines that further evaluation is necessary, you will receive word of this and can then communicate with Pediatric Therapy Associates about this.
LUTHERAN SCHOOLS PENPALS PROJECT: A form was sent home with students in 2nd through 8th grade. This is an optional project. The forms should NOT be sent back to school. There is an address for you to send the form and a $5 check to. The organizer will then match your child up to same age child in another Lutheran school. Please do not send these forms back to school.
PURPLE SPIRIT SHIRT: These were sent home to all students in PK through 6th grade. 7th and 8th grade will get them soon. Students may wear these shirts when instructed by their teacher or the school. Some parents have asked about buying a shirt. I will place an order for parents. The cost for the shirt is $10, $12 if it is an extended size. Be on the lookout for an order form.
