Sebastian Rager is Dryden Junior High School's Spelling Bee Champion!

Dryden Junior High 8th grader Sebastian Rager has been named the 2021 Spelling Bee Champion and will represent Dryden at the Lapeer County Spelling Bee, which will be held virtually. Congratulations, Sebastian, and good luck in the next level of competition!

Varsity Girls Basketball

This past week, the Dryden Varsity Girls have had three games, two home and one away. The first game was on 2/8/21 played against CPS at home. The second game was on 2/9/21 played against Armada away. The third game was on 2/11/21 played against Mayville at home.

In the first game, the Varsity girls played great! They won with a score of 46-16! In this game, Ella Kage led with 12 points, the team's highest scorer for this game! This was followed by Miya Wolff and Alexis Schuhrke with 5 rebounds!

In the second game, Dryden's Varsity team played very well, considering that Armada is a Division B school whereas Dryden is a Division D school. At the end of the game, the girls lost 35-24. Although this was a tough loss, Natalie Embree came in with 8 points, making her the leading scorer in this game! Riley Knox had 8 rebounds and 1 assist followed by Ella Kage with 6 steals!

In the last game, the Dryden Varsity Girls Basketball team took home the win against Mayville! The girls won 40-22 and had a wonderful night! The top scorer for this game was Ella Kage with 9 points and 5 steals! Olivia Miller got 2 assists and Rilynn Lindsay got 3 rebounds!

Overall, these were great first games! The Dryden Varsity Girls Basketball Team has many more to come! Congratulations, ladies, and keep up the great work!

On Monday of last week, the high school bowling team took on Memphis at Hideaway Lanes and won all of their Baker Games and Team matches. High scores for the game were Nate Brown with a 175 and Jackson Abromaitis with a 167.

On Wednesday, February 17, the boys won 14 points against Genesse High School. High scores were Nate Brown with a 189 and Jackson Abromaitis with a 145. The Varsity boys will host Capac High School on Monday, February 22 at 4 pm at Hideaway Lanes. Congratulations on your victories, Cardinals, and good luck this week!

Varsity Boys Basketball

Varsity Boys Basketball had a great two weeks. For their first home game on February 9, Dryden won 72-23 over CPS. Jack Kaplan scored 25 points; Nate Schenkel, 12; Jacob Burgess, 10; Josh Schornak, 7; Harry Atkinson, 6; Merrick Maris, 6; Caden Meulebrouck, 2; Tommy Giles, 2; and Hunter Hughes, 2.

Dryden finished ahead after a home game with Mayville on February 12. The final score was 61-30. Coach John DelCampo said, "Mayville started out very well. They were ahead 8-1 early in the game. Our defense really picked up after that." Jack Kaplan scored 25 points; Nate Schenkel, 9; Jacob Burgess, 7; Josh Schornak, 9; Harry Atkinson, 2; and Merrick Maris, 9. "We are a bit banged up, but the kids played through it," added DelCampo.

On February 17, Dryden beat Mt. Morris 65-48 at home. Jack Kaplan scored 23; Merrick Maris, 14; Nate Schenkel, 12; Jacob Burgess, 7; Dylan Ledford, 4; Josh Schornak, 3; and Harry Atkinson, 2. "It was a good team win," reflected DelCampo. "We played good team defense and we had a lot of players contribute."

At their first away game on February 19, Dryden trounced Genesee, 67-25. Scorers were Jack Kaplan, 20; Merrick Maris, 11; Nate Schenkel, 11; Jacob Burgess, 5; Dylan Ledford, 9; Josh Schornak, 9; and Harry Atkinson, 2. Coach DelCampo was pleased with the team's effort. "We played very well and made a lot of good basketball plays," he said. "We have a huge week ahead of us." Dryden plays two of the favorites for the league championship this coming week -- at Peck on Tuesday and home vs. Kingston on Friday.

Random Student Spotlight

Nick Abromaitis

Today in our random student spotlight is Nick Abromaitis! Nick is a 7th grader who has been at Dryden his entire life. In school, Nick is a part of the Dryden Red and Black. Outside of school, Nick enjoys playing Video Games and doing sports. Nick’s favorite thing about Dryden is the people are nice. He is looking forward to taking new classes once he gets into high school. After high school, Nick wants to go into broadcasting and become a commentator. Nick says the hardest thing about COVID is not being able to see family or friends.

Jackson Abromaitis

In our random student spotlight today we have Jackson Abromaitis! Jackson is a Senior who has been in Dryden his entire life. Jackson is on the Bowling team and loves to make art which he enjoys posting on social media. After high school, Jackson wants to work, join a bowling league, and keep working on his art. His dream career is to do something in business. Jackson loves his teachers at Dryden because they help him to keep moving forward and they always look out for him. Jackson says the hardest thing about COVID is not being able to see family or friends and not even being able to go out for dinner. Jackson would like us to know that he is a pretty good cook and likes to try new things. He just made chicken parmesan for his family. His favorite food is cheeseburgers and fries. His favorite actor is Tom Cruise. His favorite movie is The Firm. His favorite places to visit are Nashville and Caseville. Jackson says he will miss school when he graduates and all of the people and the fun he had with them. “Thank you for looking out for me and taking good care of me and helping me to not get overwhelmed," he said.
