Principal's Pen

Dear Bishop Baraga Trekkers,

School has finally started again! We are so excited to have your children back in the school building. The teachers, staff, and I are going to work very hard to keep everyone healthy and safe by following all our guidelines and procedures closely. Everything we are doing is designed to keep us in school learning. Please refer to our COVID-19 Handbook for the particulars of our reopening plan. It was mailed to each of you and is also posted on SchoolSpeak.

The Monday Mailer will be sent out the first day of school each week with the youngest child in the family. Please look for it in bookbags. It is very important that you read through the information we send home and return the plastic envelope to school the next day.

I want to say a special thank to all of you, for entrusting your children to us this year. It is a great privilege for us to be a part of your lives! We are very blessed and grateful to God, for the gift of each one of your children.

God bless you,

Angela Oller

Important Information for the Year

SchoolSpeak is our online communication platform. It is very important that you login to your account periodically. The school posts important information regarding events and dates as well as updates regarding procedural or policy changes. Parents also have access to their child's classroom page. Teachers post homework here as well as progress reports. You can also email your teachers through SchoolSpeak. Go to the following link to login: https://www.schoolspeak.com/secure/login.aspx If you do not know your username or password, please contact the office and we will email it to you.

Our Mass schedule will be changing this year. Each Wednesday, at 8:00 a.m., the kindergarten through third grade will attend Mass. Each Friday, at 8:00 a.m., the fourth through eighth grade will attend Mass. All the Diocese of Marquette policies will be followed for Mass attendance. This means children will sit six feet apart and wear facial coverings. Students should not wear shorts to Mass. They are welcome to change into the dress code shorts when they return to school. Also, students should wear their Bishop Baraga blue polos to school on Mass days. Kindergarten through third will wear their polos on Wednesday and fourth through eighth will wear them on Fridays. There will be no Mass this week. Wednesday, September 2nd, will be the first Mass for K-3. Friday, September 11th, will be the first Mass for 4-8.

Finally, do you want to receive the texts that are sent from the school office? If so, you must go to your SchoolSpeak account and check that your profile has the correct cell phone number and carrier. You must choose your carrier in order to receive texts. We do not send texts often, but when we do they are important. Call the office if you have any questions. We can update this for you if you give us the correct information.

Please click on the button above to visit the lunch portal for the hot lunch program. We are sending information about this program home in the Monday Mailer today. There is an application for free and reduced lunch as well as pricing information. This year there are a few changes to the program. The biggest change is that students will only have one option for lunch each day instead of the two options they had in the past.

The payments for lunch can be made on your Breitung Township lunch account which you can access above. If you do not know your username and password please contact the food service office at 906-779-2631. You may also send a check to our school office written to Breitung Township Schools. In the memo please state for hot lunch.
