What we've been up to.
- Celebrating the 100th day with crowns and t-shirts, counting drops of water, pairing 100 gum balls in a gum ball machine, making books with 100 things in them and counting by tens and fives!
- Greeting each other by reading random names and saying the days of the week in order.
- We have begun our nonfiction writing unit. We began by brainstorming penguin facts some of us have learned in KASE. We then illustrated our nonfiction journals with guided drawings of very realistic looking penguins.
- Using number lines to add and reading and writing number sentences using + and =.
- Identifying and marking important parts of stories to discuss with our reading partners. We sure do love sticking post its all over our books to mark those pages.
- Learning to read cvc words with subtle differences in vowel sounds (cap, cup, cop, top, tap, tip)
- Learning the penguin dance inside when it is 10º outside.
Felix's mom, Inga, read us another installment from a series of books by Keith Mosely. Felix's dad, Mike introduced us to Where is the Dragon? and Inga read us Where is the Knight?. Everyone really enjoys the interactive search for the hidden pictures in these stories!
Link of the week.
Learn the Penguin Dance! It's actually really fun and kind of a workout if you're in, ahem, winter fitness mode.
A reason to smile.
Why are the monkey bars so much easier to cross now?
Squirting stuff is fun.
The things kids say. For Real.
Student 1: What are we wearing all of these clothes for?
Student 2: It's like summer out here.
Everything is relative.
