What is Rock?

Rock is a popular genre that originated as Rock and Roll in the united states in the 1950s and it also grew in the united kingdom, after it expanded to other country's around the world. Rock was mostly in North America and Europe, mostly in the united states and in the united kingdom. Rock has a lot of history behind the genre and its amazing when you learn about the genre and artists that have been playing this type of music. " Rock is a widely popular and vast genre that gathers together a wide range of different styles. Its origins can be traced to US recordings in the late 1940s that combined major elements from Jump-Blues and Swing with the increased prominence given to the role of the electric guitar drawn from Chicago Blues. Even though the term ‘Rock’ was originally used by some Blues performers in the late 1930s to describe their faster tempo songs and bawdier version of their music, it went largely unrecorded until the late 1940s."(rateyourmusic.com)

How Did Rock Become Popular?

Rock music, where did it all begin? Believe it or not a black man who played black music, originally founded rock music in the mid 50s, this man was Chuck Berry. "Rock became popular in the 1950s through two of their original forms Rock & Roll and Rockabilly. Rock & Roll originated as a category to describe African American musicians that were playing a fast tempo Rhythm & Blues such as Little Richard and Chuck Berry. Rockabilly comes from some young Western Swing performers that began to incorporate its faster tempo combining it with Country influences and tends to be applied to white musicians like Carl Perkins and was most popular through the early recordings of Elvis Presley. This type of music was very popular through 1958 when it started to fade with the arrival of Teen Pop, despite the emergence of Surf Rock with bands like The Shadows and The Ventures in the late 1950s and early 1960s and Garage Rock in the early 1960s."(rateyourmusic.com) Theres lots of reasons why Rock became popular at that time, First reason why Rock became such a big thing at that time was because there was really no other genres but Rock or different types of Rock. Second reason is that the people that were good at making good Rock music at that time, such as Elvis Presley, Chuck Berry and after in the 60s The Beatles and The Rolling Stones came up, which were great and everyone liked their music. So thats how Rock became popular.

Who made Rock Popular?

Though swing music was still popular, this was the decade that Rock and Roll emerged. Rock and Roll in its earliest stage could be described as blues with electric guitar. Rockabilly emerged in the 1950's which is a mixture of Rock and Roll, country, blues, and jazz and was a fundamental music genre of the 50's. The major artists, that really made Rock and Roll popular were obviously Elvis Presley, Bill Haley, Buddy Holly, Little Richard and of course Chuck Berry.

Elvis Presley was an American singer who was from Mississippi, Presley was one of the greatest artists in the world. Presley is one of the most celebrated and influential musicians of our time, he is the best-selling solo artist in the history of recorded music. Presley use to pay 4$ to use the studio so he can record 2 songs. In the 50s, there was racism and Presley was a pretty boy who sang black music, he wasn't the first white boy to sing black music but people think that Elvis stole their music which he didn't. Did you know that Elvis served in the United States Army between March 1958 and March 1960. "He was one of the first performers inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986 But Elvis has been recognized for his contributions several musical genres, most notably rock, country and gospel. In 1998, Presley was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame, three years later, he was inducted into the Gospel Music Association's Gospel Music Hall of Fame."(www.biography.com) Presley has remained one of the world's most popular music icons. Over the years, several documentaries and films have explored the performer. Elvis was a Drug addict, so every time he would perform he would insert drugs in him, Sometime in the morning of August 16, 1977, Presley died of heart failure, at the age of 42. It was later ruled that his death was related to his prescription drug use. Elvis died while he was in the bathroom, his fiance found him laying on the bathroom floor.
