Teach Compassion with Valentine's Cards
You can teach your child the importance of caring for others this month. Why not make a list of people who might like to receive a Valentine—perhaps those who might not receive any other cards. There might be a child at school who doesn't have many friends. Or there may be a neighbor who lives alone, a helpful clerk in the neighborhood store, or the school custodian who keeps the building looking nice and neat.
As your child is making Valentine cards for friends, encourage her to make one or two more. If possible, deliver these cards in person—as your child sees the joy on the face of the person who receives the card, she'll be encouraged to make other kind gestures in the future.
