Interested in the District Educational Improvement Process?

The 2015-2016 District Educational Improvement Council has two open positions: one (1) parent representative position and one (1) business representative position.

The purpose of the District Educational Improvement Committee (DEIC) is to advise the District in establishing and reviewing the District’s educational goals, objectives, and major District-wide classroom instructional programs. The committee serves exclusively in an advisory role. Parent, community, and business representatives are volunteer appointments. All representatives serve staggered two-year terms. Members are not limited as to the number of consecutive terms they may serve on DEIC.

The DEIC holds 4-6 meetings each spring, typically on Wednesday or Thursday evenings.

You may access the 2015-2015 DEIC Application by visiting

Lago Vista Annual Tree Lighting Celebration

Come join your friends and neighbors at City Hall Square on December 8th for the Annual Tree Lighting Celebration. Santa will stop by for photos and to share some free cocoa, apple cider, and cookies that will be available. Local vendors will be there as well with gift ideas for the people on your shopping list. Our own LVES Choir will sing at this annual event, so you won't want to miss it!

The great volunteers from Blue Santa will be on hand to accept donations of food, money, or gifts to help those in our area who are less fortunate. Please check their website for information about the type of donations that will be accepted, or to find out how you can get involved as a volunteer.

Technology News...

To celebrate Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13), our entire school is joining in on the largest learning event in history: The Hour of Code. During art class students will participate in a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics. Coding helps nurture problem-solving skills, logic and creativity. By starting early, students will have a foundation for success in any 21st-century career path. Be sure to read next week's newsletter for pictures of our students participating in this fun, learning experience!

Box Tops for Education

Keep collecting those Box Tops Labels! The class in each grade level that collects the most box top labels between now and January 5th will win a pizza party in January. Turn in completed labels to your child's teacher. Good luck!

Counselor's Corner

Caring is our character trait for December. Classes are learning the meaning of caring and how to show caring towards others with their words and actions. The students listen to a story called, Somebody Loves You Mr. Hatch and then participate in a discussion on being kind to others, being forgiving, and helping those in need. Students then have a heart shaped puzzle they work on individually to draw or write their own examples of how they can be caring to their family, friends, and teachers.

A few examples the students have suggested for caring:

“make friends with the new kid” 2nd Grader

“say…let’s be friends” 1st grader

“help someone up if they fall down” Kindergartener

“share your stuff” 4th Grader

“parents say no because they care” 1st grader

“help someone pick up their books” 4th grader

“say…I’m sorry” Kindergartener

“ask…are you ok?” 2nd Grader

In addition to the class lesson on caring, students will participate in a door-decorating contest next week. The door must demonstrate Caring and be student created. The winning class will have a pizza party when we return in January!
