NEWS THIS WEEK IN THE WORLD OF CAREER & COLLEGE READINESS
NATIONAL APPRENTICESHIP WEEK
What is National Apprenticeship Week?
NAW is a nationwide celebration where industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders host events to showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for re-building our economy, advancing racial and gender equity, and supporting underserved communities. NAW is an opportunity to highlight how Registered Apprenticeship, a proven and industry-driven training model, provides a critical talent pipeline that can help to address some of our nation’s pressing workforce challenges such as rebuilding our country’s infrastructure, addressing critical supply chain demands, supporting a clean energy workforce, modernizing our cybersecurity response, and responding to care economy issues.
Athletic/Health & Fitness Degree Opportunities at Central Michigan University
Central Michigan has one of the best teacher prep programs in the state and welcomes your students to join us. If students have a passion for health, fitness, and working with people, a major in health and physical education is right for them. Here is why to choose CMU:
Affordability: Our students can complete the program and be certified to teach K-12 health and physical education in four years with no summer classes. Most other programs in the state require more hours and time to graduate. Our low credits to graduation make it possible for students, if they would choose to do so, to acquire another teaching minor/certification along with the health and physical education major in the same amount of time as other institutions single program.
Quality: We have the highest first-attempt certification test pass rate of any program in Michigan. Our graduates are proficient educators. They learn how to plan curriculum and instruction, assess and document change, and use technology to teach, manage, and report student learning. They are equipped with the skills to effectively teach K-12 students how to manage behaviors to optimize their health and well-being now and in the future.
Job Placement: Over the last several years, 100% of our graduates have been employed. We consistently have school districts from Michigan and across the country contacting us looking for viable candidates, yet do not have enough graduates to fill the needed positions.
CAREER EXPLORATION WITH XELLO
For many students, career awareness is not just showing them jobs that are related to ones they’ve thought about. It’s about expanding their realm of possibility for their entire future. We all know career awareness isn’t a new concept. Remember parent career days?
While this is still a great practice, students may only be learning about careers within their specific community. This is why career fairs, focused career weeks, in-school mentorship, as well as accessible tools like Xello are great for allowing students to broaden their scope of knowledge of the various career pathways out there.
POSITIVITY PROJECT: Gratitude
Gratitude is the quality of feelings and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a “relationship-strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we’ve been supported and affirmed by other people.”
Take some time to pause and reflect this week, "Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things." -Robert Brault
