1st Day of School For Students
#MAKEADIFFERENCEMONDAY
For the next several weeks B-C-S will be featuring our 2019 graduating Seniors! A fun fact about this year’s graduating class is that there are 4 sets of twins that will be graduating this coming May! Each week we will feature one of 4 sets of graduating twins.
This week B-C-S is featuring, Class of 2019 Senior’s Ronni and Marcus Hartlage!
1. Please tell the B-C-S Community a little about yourself.
Ronni: Hi, my name is Ronni Hartlage and my biggest interests are computer programming, soccer, and traveling. Also, I'm Valedictorian, Science Club and Science Olympiad President, a member of the National Honor Society, and recently I was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society at Owens Community College. I am an active Children's Ministry volunteer at Shoreline Church and the Clothing Corral. I will soon be attending Wright State University and majoring in Computer Science.
Marcus: I am very active in my school. I have been a year-round athlete for my entire career. Starting in the fall with cross country, basketball in the winter, and track in the spring, it makes for a very busy year. With all this, I also am an active member of Shoreline church which conveniently is in a thirty-second walk from my house. I attend the normal services in the morning, then go to a senior small group in the afternoon, and lastly our youth group in the evening. Also, I am a member of NHS and science club. Going away from school-related activities, my favorite thing in the world is Star Wars. I have been a fanatic since before I can remember and cannot wait for the next movie.
2. What are your career plans and goals and how do you plan to achieve them?
Ronni: My plan is to begin developing an app and web development business of my own while in college and become a software developer for a company after graduating. Once my business becomes profitable, it will become my primary career. By majoring in Computer Science, taking business courses, and using the computer programming skills I've been learning through online courses through Owens, I will pursue this aspiration.
Marcus: I do not have any specific career goals in mind at the moment. I never had a niche for anything specific in life. However, I am more than ready to start working somewhere. I have previously worked at a wildlife safari and a construction job. I plan to study some form of business promotion in college but will be going into college undecided for the first year. Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania is my college of choice at the moment.
3. What is your favorite high school memory?
Ronni: My favorite high school memory is being with the Science Olympiad team members this year during the last few weeks of preparation for the regional competition. It was inspiring to see multiple underclassman so passionate and excited about the things they were building and studying for. Not only that but also the memory of receiving the results for this year’s competition. We did incredible as a team this year and it was exciting to see more team members receiving awards than ever before.
Marcus: My favorite memory has to be my senior prom. Everything about that night was amazing and fun.
4. What is the best advice you could give to underclassman?
Ronni: Take classes throughout high school that will both interest and challenge you. By doing so, you will be able to explore different interests that you may decide to pursue after high school and be more prepared for the difficulty of college courses.
Marcus: It will always be a grind. No matter if you take easy classes all four years or you take the hardest, it is going to be a grind. There is homework that needs to be done, practices to attend to, and so many other things that build up that bring a lot of stress. At the end of it all though, enjoy the moment. You only get four years of high school. Make the most of it.
5. What’s on your bucket list this summer?
Ronni: The first thing on my summer bucket list is going on a mission trip. I will be traveling for about a month in nine different European countries and traveling by plane for my very first time from Chicago to London. In what remains of the summer, I would like to spend as much time with friends, family, and outside enjoying the warm weather.
Marcus: My bucket list for this summer is to go to as many graduation parties that I can and work until I have to go to college. Maybe take a little vacation in that time somewhere but we will have to wait to see about that one.
