A Message from the Prinicpal
Chapman Families,
It was another great week at CES! Please take a minute to read through this week's newsletter. There is a lot of new information along with a few repeated items. We had our first school assembly and PRIDE Shout Out drawing this week! If you are ordering from the district's Mustang Team Shop Sale, orders close on August 28 at 11:59 pm. Please make sure to update your Annual School Forms by September 1. I hope your family enjoys the beautiful weather this weekend!
Yours in partnership,
Mrs. Harrell
2nd Graders at Lunch
Here are some of our second grade students at lunch this week! Students sit with their homeroom class but can choose who they sit next to! During lunch classes can earn PRIDE tallies for showing our cafeteria expectations! Once a class reaches 5 tallies they get to spin the wheel for a whole class celebration! This could be extra recess, extra tech time, a PJ day, etc.!
School-wide PRIDE Assembly
On Friday all students participated in our PRIDE Kickoff Assembly! We reviewed our school-wide PRIDE expectations, reviewed how we celebrate students showing PRIDE and drew our first weekly PRIDE winners! We draw one student per homeroom and this week they could choose from a homework pass, sitting in the Principal's chair for the day or a pass for a free game of mini golf!
4th Graders Switching Classes
One area we show PRIDE at Chapman is in the hallway! Students are prepared with their materials and walk single file on the right side at a voice level zero. Check out our 4th grader students rocking their class switch!
Chapman Night at Pat Catan Stadium! It was a great turn out!

Mustang Spotlight - Mrs. Robin Holden
Mustang Spotlight - Mrs. Robin Holden is in her 31st year as an elementary teacher in our District. Mrs. Holden has taught at Surrarrer and Muraski, but has spent the majority of her years at Chapman, where she currently teaches third grade. Her mom was also a Strongsville elementary teacher for 24 years and they even worked together for a few years. Mrs. Holden earned her undergraduate degree from Miami University and also has a Master’s Degree from Baldwin Wallace University.
“I love to see my students’ faces when they understand a new concept. Making connections with them is the best part of my day! My favorite time of year is our “Right to Read” Celebration because our staff always performs a play on the stage and the whole school is involved in a common reading goal,” said Mrs. Holden.
Mrs. Holden has been a resident of Strongsville for most of her life, and attended Allen Elementary, Albion Jr. High, and is a graduate of Strongsville High School. “My favorite memories from Allen were the sports carnival, performing in plays, and the egg drop off the roof - which I won one year! I love being a part of the Strongsville community, recognizing and saying ‘Hi’ to students and families outside of the classroom and around town. And catching up with those who were my students and finding out how their lives have changed since elementary school!”
Thank you Mrs. Holden for your efforts to help our third graders at Chapman continue to grow and develop! #BeTheDifference
Ohio State Test Parent Reports (Grades 4-5)
Parents/guardians with students in grades 4-5 should have received a family report from last spring's Ohio State Tests. If you did not receive your report, please contact Mrs. Mesenger in the office.
Breakfast/Lunch Money and Charging Meals
Families may send money for meals in with their student or create a Pay Schools account and load money onto their student's account. If sending in money please place it in an envelope or bag marked with your student's first and last name. Mrs. Konz, our cafeteria manager, can load this money onto your student's account. Checks need to be made out to Strongsville City Schools.
Students are able to charge up to $6.50. After $6.50 has been charged students will receive an alternate lunch. Mrs. Koncz sends home charge notice slips daily as a reminder to send in money/load more onto your student's account. You can sign up on Pay Schools for an alert to let you know when there is a low balance on your student's account.
Please contact Mrs. Konz at 440-268-5340 or Pay Schools 1-877-393-6628 with questions.
The 2nd and Seven Foundation Program for 2nd Grade Students
Second Grade Families,
During the 2022/2023 school year, our foundation, along with athletes from Strongsville HS, will be providing free books from our Hog Mollies series and reading to your child’s classroom. Each of our books deliver a positive message from anti-bullying, leadership, manners, healthy choices, the value of diversity and much more. We also encourage you to visit our kid’s site at kids.secondandseven.com for read-alouds, activities, and other enrichment opportunities. Feel free to re-read the book with your child and discuss the importance of its message and how it can be applied to their daily lives. You can follow us on twitter @secondandseven to see updates from your child’s classroom visits, and learn more about us at www.secondandseven.com! Happy Reading!

PRIDE Celebrations
PRIDE Kick Off Assembly
Students have spent the first eight days (7 for our kindergarten students) learning about our school-wide expectations. They took field trips around our building to learn and practice expected behavior in each area of our school.
On Friday all students attended our PRIDE Kick Off Assembly. This was a school-wide review and we drew our first weekly PRIDE Shout Out winners! We are so close to our first class earning their first reward. After five class PRIDE Shout Outs, the class gets to spin the wheel to earn their celebration. Ms. Rusch's kindergarten class is in the lead with 4 class PRIDE Shout Outs!
HERE is the presentation students saw if you would like to learn more about PRIDE at Chapman.
