This week, we’d like to celebrate and congratulate Provo City School District’s Child Nutrition Coordinator, Katie Lewis. Katie walks the halls of our schools, talks to students about the quality of our food, and hears the comments and concerns of the kitchen staff. For: Admin and All Classified Employees
The self-appraisals (self-evaluations) have been uploaded to the ESP Evaluation Portal. All classified employees are required to complete a self-appraisal by December 1, 2022 and meet with their supervisors to review the self-appraisal and professional goals by December 15, 2022. The self-appraisals will take roughly 30 minutes to complete. Visit the employee website for details and links.

Our next LETRS training is on January 17, 2023. Those in the district cohort doing Unit 3 do not need to do anything to register. If you are a classroom teacher doing unit 7 you will need to sign up. Learn more on the employee website.

The Utah Coalition for Educational Technology (UCET) is planning to recognize an Innovative Teacher of the Year for each district in the state at their conference this spring, and we invite you to nominate someone from your school. UCET is looking for “front-line classroom teachers who continue to envision new ways to instruct, connect and learn together in their classrooms. Learn more on the employee website.

Are you pursuing a STEM, Math or Ed Tech endorsement? Did you know you can be reimbursed for tuition and course materials? The Utah Legislature has allocated funding to the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) to use to incentivize educators across the state to achieve endorsements in the STEM subjects. The Ultimate Robot Competition challenges teams of students to create a robot from an Ultimate Robot Kit. Students are not meant to follow the plans exactly, but instead must modify (engineer) what they have to accomplish a task. Visit the employee website to learn more and sign up.

The Allison family, a local Native American family, delighted Amelia Earhart Elementary students with an educational and engaging assembly, sharing about Native American cultural traditions through dance, music, and storytelling. This is a chance to really highlight those special creations you see pass through your classroom. UVU Roots of Knowledge series of stained glass windows chronicles the human quest for intellectual advancement and progress. The Roots of Knowledge DISCOVER program is designed to engage children and teens in their educational experience, with three challenge levels geared to K-6th, 7-9th, and 10-12th grades. There are specific strategies that multilingual learners need during instruction to help them acquire language more effectively while learning content. These strategies do not need to be elaborate or time-consuming to implement. Educators who embed these strategies in their instruction to serve and support their multilingual learners academically make a greater impact on their success.
