DENISON HAS JOINED SUMMER ON THE CUYAHOGA (SOTC)!
A LITTLE ABOUT SOTC
Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) is a unique summer internship program open to students of Case Western Reserve, Colgate, Cornell, Denison, Ohio Wesleyan, Smith, University of Chicago and Yale. The program brings together 50-70 students for an intensive summer immersion program designed to help interns explore the professional, civic, and social offerings of the Cleveland area. SOTC offers students challenging internships, community introductions, alumni connections, and group housing for the summer.
SOTC's MISSION
To recruit talented college students for summer internships and a unique immersion into the community with the ultimate goal of having graduates build networks and permanently locate in Greater Cleveland.
PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
A summer in Cleveland will be a summer to remember! Students get to experience the very best of this major-league Midwestern city. Students have the opportunity to land a PAID INTERNSHIP with a great company, enjoy FREE HOUSING, meet other students and alumni from all over the world, and experience a summer filled with fun and enriching events. All internships will be posted in DULink and the SOTC website, where students can register to apply with NO FEE.
DENISON ALUMNI
CE&D would like to give a HUGE thank you to the alumni - Doug Price, Jill Clark, Matthew Liebson, Collin Hanson, Evan Zuzik, Michele Abraham and Jon Bridge - who worked very hard to make this a reality.
Here is what CE&D has done so far this year....
CE&D is excited to report strong growth in several of our key student activity metrics. For example, 2013 student traffic to DULink has increased 301%, total student advising contacts are up 83% and workshop attendance has grown 44% during the same time period compared to 2011. While we have not yet reached our ultimate goals, we are excited by the positive momentum. As we grow and expand our student preparation for life after Denison, this information below, along with other similar data, will help as we strategically plan for the coming months and years.
Special Thanks To:
As shown in the graphic above, we had more than 60 students complete externships during the latest winter break, an increase of 50% over last year (the first year of the program).
Thank you to the PACE members who offered Externships, along with their affiliated companies.

Gwen Gunter - Nielsen
Going into this externship, I was really unsure as to how my major in psychology could relate to work at a company such as Nielsen. However, the externship showed me how diverse a company it really is and how applicable psychology is to what they do every day, analyzing data and learning how to best present it to clients.
This experience showed me a career completely outside of the health field, which is what I'm currently considering going into after graduating, but this really presented a different but interesting path my career could take.

Get Involved!
1) Full-Time Jobs: Spring Semester can be a very busy and stressful time for seniors, especially those still seeking full-time opportunities. If your organization hires recent college graduates for full-time opportunities, we would greatly appreciate your help connecting with relevant audiences at your organization. As always, feel free to send people to our employer page (www.Denison.edu/employers), which outlines the process and resources for recruiting Denison students, and/or contact us at the information listed at the bottom of this newsletter. Thank you to Geoff Dennis at KPMG and to Spencer Bolgard at Phoenix Contact USA, Inc. for reaching out last week to connect our office with your organizations' recruiters.
2) Career Connections Talks: If you are planning to be on campus or in the Central Ohio area during the next few months, please reach out if you are willing to talk with students and share your career advice.
Please Help Us Grow PACE
As you know, the goal of PACE is to make sure Denison graduates find opportunities to thrive and to offer support as they launch their careers. We do not expect members to do everything or to be active the entire time, but to listen, read, and be willing to be ASKED to help out. If you have an idea or a position you would like to promote to students, please contact CE&D using the information below.
