Next Week's Reading Focus
Big Idea: Communities
Essential Question: How do people from different cultures contribute to a community?
This week our class will be focusing on how people from different cultures contribute to a community. We will be discussing how we can learn from people from another culture.
Spelling List
Next week's spelling words have a focus on the long a, long i, and long o medial sound. Should your child want/need additional practice, I will recommend Spelling City. I upload our list into the following site, and there are strategies for practice, as well as fun games to make learning how to spell the words enjoyable. Simply click on the Spelling City link www.spellingcity.com/tdrudy and locate the appropriate list. Next week's list is titled Unit 1 Week 3

Next Week's Share Topic:
Family & Pets: Tell about your family, including any pets you may have... how many are in your family or ages, likes, etc. You can bring in pictures of your family, write a story about your family, etc. Be sure to check out the pictures below of the various ways students have opted to share. We all agreed that visual props such as these make listening to the presenter so much more interesting. How much preparation is your student putting into these weekly presentations?
Lions Club Vision Screenings
Thanks to the Liberty Lions Club, preliminary vision screenings were conducted on Thursday on all students in our class. Please be on the lookout for any additional information that might be sent your way regarding the screening results. Of course, if issues are noted, you'll want to pursue a full-blown screening with an eye doctor right away. During the screenings, several students reported that they are supposed to be wearing glasses, but are not. Please understand how important it is that your child wear his/her glasses each day, if this is the case.
"We Will, We Will Rock You!"
You can be expecting your child to turn into a bit of a rock hound as we launch our study of rocks. It doesn't matter the age or ability...it seems all students love to study rocks. We will be addressing the following Indiana Academic Standards with this upcoming study unit:
- "Observe the detailed characteristics of rocks and minerals. Identify and classify rocks as being composed of different combinations of minerals."
- "Determine how fossils are formed, discovered, layered over time, and used to provide evidence of the organisms and the environments in which they lived long ago."
