MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
I am thrilled to share some wonderful news with you regarding the outstanding fundraising efforts of our students and staff at Chardon Middle School. Last school year, our school community came together in support of the "Drink Local Drink Tap" initiative, and the results have been nothing short of exceptional. The 6th-grade team has worked with this organization to support a great cause and help kids make deeper connections to a novel they read in ELA class, "A Long Walk to Water." Ben Jurek, an Educational Project Manager shared the following message and pictures with the 6th grade team.
I am privileged to announce that because of the tremendous work you and your classrooms did this previous school year, St. Mary's Masaka Primary School in Mpigi, Uganda, has clean water!
I wanted to share some photos, and the thank you's from the school community and the head teacher at St. Mary's Masaka. We will put the plaque with your school name on the latrine system, which will be shared with you when the project is completed!
From the bottom of my heart, I am so thankful to have worked with you and helped make this happen. As an organization, we believe that it takes everyone to make a difference in this world, and you are a perfect example of this put into action. Thank you for all that you do. We are excited to be coming back to Chardon again this year!
SOCIAL MEDIA WARNING
Recently I have read several articles advising parents to increase their efforts on monitoring their student(s) social media apps. Remember that our monitoring is not about invading privacy but about safeguarding our children in an increasingly complex digital world. We need to continue to have the conversations so your child(ren) can navigate the online landscape safely and responsibly.
HEARING SCREENING
On November 13 and 20, the school nurse, Ms. Jennier Trittschuh, and speech/language pathologist, Mrs. Sarah Sraj, will be administering hearing screenings to all 5th and 7th-grade students. If you have any questions about this screening, please contact our Nurse Jen, jennifer.trittschuh@chardonschools.org.
Enjoy this four-day weekend!

4th Grade Robotics Club
Mr. Carrol will be returning as the club's advisor. We decided to have a 4th-grade and a 5th-grade club this year. The 5th-grade club will meet during the 3rd quarter and a sign-up sheet will be shared at a later date. All information about the 4th Robotics Club will be shared with students who complete the Google Form below moving forward.
4th Grade CogAT
Parents of 4th grade students,
Your child will be taking the Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) during the window of November 6-10, 2023. The Ohio-required whole-grade testing screens all students for potential gifted identification in Superior Cognitive Ability and Creative Thinking Ability, and it also provides information about students' instruction strengths and needs. Following the screening, individual student results will be sent home with your child. Please contact your child’s school for exact testing dates and times. If you have questions about the assessment, contact megan.kinney@chardonschools.org.
