The Buzz at Leeds

November 15, 2021

Message from Principal Wenz

Dear Leeds Caregivers,

“November is Native American Heritage Month, or as it is commonly referred to, American Indian and Alaska Native Heritage Month.

The month is a time to celebrate rich and diverse cultures, traditions, and histories and to acknowledge the important contributions of Native people. Heritage Month is also an opportune time to educate the general public about tribes, to raise a general awareness about the unique challenges Native people have faced both historically and in the present, and the ways in which tribal citizens have worked to conquer these challenges.” -NCAI (National Congress of American Indians)

Tomorrow, Tuesday, 11/16 we will have COVID testing at Leeds. This week those being tested will get tested twice. The first sample will be placed in the pool. If someone is positive in the pool then the individual samples will be tested. This should make our process much easier.

Wednesday, 11/17 is National Education Support Professionals Day. Leeds is very fortunate to have ESPs who support our students, caregivers, teachers, and other staff members each and every day.

Just a reminder we are taking a break from our Lift Off Learning program until November 30th. We have a full week of school this week. Next week, we will have an early release on Wednesday, 11/24 with dismissal at 11:30. We will not have session 2 for preschool. Then we will not have school with our Thanksgiving break Thursday, 11/25 and Friday, 11/26.

Stay safe and be well,

Chris Wenz, Principal

Please reach out to for the meeting link. We plan to meet the second Wednesday of every month throughout the year

E&I participation is completely flexible--you can choose to commit to as much or as little as you’d like. This might mean staying in the loop via our email listserv (email us at to be added), attending the occasional meeting or every meeting, initiating or joining existing committee work, or some combination.

Thanks for reading! Please be in touch with any questions.

Re-opening of Schools Update

There have been some changes to the protocols and updates for schools. Please see the attached letter from all of the principals regarding building use and visitors to the school. All building use, visitors, volunteers, and events must have prior approval by the building principal. Volunteers must go through VINS (Volunteers in Northampton) and follow their protocols of having a CORI, fingerprints, and proof of vaccination. All requests must go through the building principal and have prior approval, follow school committee policies KF and KI and everyone must follow safety and health protocols around masking, social distancing, and capacity. We are still encouraging all meetings be held via zoom, unless it is not possible. Please read the attached letter carefully as well as the two school committee policies embedded in the letter. Thank you for your patience and for putting safety first.
