A message from the Principal-Mrs. Bookman
To our Suffield Families:
As we continue to come to school each day, it is extremely important that you continually monitor your children for COVID-like symptoms. Be sure to check your child's temperature before coming to school each day. Also, keep your child home from school if he/she shows any other symptoms such as:
- cough
- difficulty breathing
- chills/shaking with chills
- muscle aches
- headache
- sore throat
- nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
In order for us all to remain in school, we need to take every precaution. We know that everyone wants us to remain in person as long as possible, so please help with this by following these guidelines. If your child presents with any of these while at school, expect a phone call!
This is the "last call" for families in need of assistance during this holiday time to contact me. I have a few families wishing to help others out. If your family is in need and you'd like some assistance, please let me know!
Some of you have emailed me asking if you were still able to send in holiday gifts for the adults in the building who work with your children. This is so kind of you, but certainly not necessary. If you are someone worrying about this, I would suggest you go about your plan as you normally would and staff will have to make sure that they handle any gift from home in a safe manner. Mrs. Baker has set up a link for you to view for somethings that teachers may like for the classroom. Please check it out if you'd like to purchase something. Please refrain from sending in any food.
To make the holiday season special, we do have a few fun events planned for students. They are discussed below. We hope to be able to make the holiday special amidst all of the COVID restrictions.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Mrs. Bookman
Gifts to those in Need
For our annual Christmas project, we will be collecting donations for Safer Futures home in Portage County. This is a short term home for women and children of domestic violence. Often times the families are leaving a dangerous situation and have to leave the home very quickly without packing anything. Over the past few years, this organization has been so thankful for the donations that our students and families have made.
We are accepting donations of NEW items listed below :
- Toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothpaste, brushes, etc.)
- Small Blankets
- Pillows
- Toys
- PJ’s
- Socks
- Undies
- Books
- Mittens, gloves, hats
- Coloring books & crayons
- School supplies
Donations can be brought to school and placed in the foyer area. All items will be quarantined appropriately before giving them to Safer Futures. The collection ends December 21.
Habit 4 - Think Win-Win!
Thinking Win-win is the belief that everyone can win. It’s not you or me, it’s both of us. It’s a belief that there are enough good things for everyone. It’s being able to be happy when good things happen to other people

Wish List Links
Traditionally the PTA has hung paper stockings outside of the classrooms to give families a chance to see what items the teacher may need for the classroom. Since most of our conferences were virtual, here are our virtual wish lists!
ELF Yourself
To celebrate the holidays, all students and staff are invited to "Elf Yourself" on Tuesday, December 22nd. Students are welcome to dress up as an "elf" or in the holiday colors of red and green to help make our day before break a fun one! Please make sure that any clothing worn can be worn all day, and will not impede your child's or another child's learning.

Children's Advantage at Suffield
Counselor's Corner
Hello Field Families!
I hope you all had a wonderful holiday break and a fun bonus day with the snow! This month in our character development lessons we are going to be focusing on Conflict Resolution Skills! The students and I will be discussing healthy ways to resolve a conflict. We want students to have healthy relationships with their peers, it is normal for kids to have conflict with one another. Learning how to sort out those problems they may have with one another in a respectful manner is important. Students learning how to solve their own problems and develop these skills are so key to their development and growth!
Please check out my website< to sign up for coffee with the counselor and or to contact me for your child's needs! School Counselor's Corner

Crayola Colorcycle Program
Crayola and schools across North America have banded together to help kids understand the importance of their role in protecting the environment. Suffield Elementary will now take part in recycling markers that no longer work. It’s a super easy project to help our environment! You can send in any brand of markers, sharpies, dry erase, and highlighters. Once we collect the markers, they will be shipped to a facility that repurposes them so that they are kept out of the landfills.
