Bear Tracks

A Note From the Principal:
Dear Bear Tavern Staff,
As we head into our first Den Group meeting of the year, let’s remember why we started them. To build great relationships in small communities, to mentor students and to help foster friendships among students who may not typically cross paths and allow children to be role models.
These goals are so critical to building our sense of community at Bear Tavern and they do not come easy! I’m going to need a lot from you tomorrow and for the remaining Den Group meetings. There are only 9 of them. Be sure to focus, be in the moment and really get that teamwork and positive atmosphere going. It’s tough, but really important and will pay huge dividends.
As we move deeper in the fall and have settled in, remember what Bear Tavern PRIDE is really all about. It is the sense of happiness and fulfillment of knowing that we give it our all every day; that we sweat the small stuff and that we bring passion and enthusiasm to everything that we do. We don’t do these things for a reward or even a ‘thank you.’ We do them because it is what we do at Bear Tavern.
Let’s attack our Den Groups and our upcoming PD day so that we can get as much as possible out of them – for our students and for ourselves.
Thanks for giving it all that you have. Have a great weekend.
Happy Friday!
Sincerely,
Chris
Key Information:
Fire Prevention - Firefighers JD and Ashley did a great job with our 4th and 5th graders this week. Next week, we'll do preK - 3. We talked today and will be inviting full grade levels to read with the firefighers, see the 'gear' and ask questions in either the gym or cafeteria (I'll let you know ASAP), then go see the trucks in the bus loop or parking lot.
Here is some other key information from the fire department:

Coloring Contest Details coming to mailboxes today.
Veteran's Day & Operation Gratitude - Veteran's Day will be celebrated on Wed Nov 9th. Information will be sent to staff and families to invite Veterans as special guests, but we'll also have a "Veteran's Information sheet" to honor Veterans who are no longer with us or who can't make it to BT on the 9th. Stay tuned, but please think about it in advance if you are interested in contributing some patriotic decorations. Also, I'd like to have one student from each grade level read an essay/letter again. We have been invited to participate in Operation Gratitude (letter writing) this year. It would make sense to streamline so that those submissions could be what is read. We would just have to bump up the 'due date.' Stay tuned for more information, but in the meantime CLICK HERE for the Operation Gratitude guidelines and information.
Songs - Remember, if you'd like to request a song that encourages or promotes movement, submit it on THIS FORM. I'll upload the song onto the Google Site so that you can play it anytime in your class.
Legos - We want to build a Lego Wall in the office! If you have any flat green Lego bases and would like to donate them, just bring them to Lauren or Joanne.
Lesson Plan Posting Reminder - Please be sure to post your lesson plans on or before each teaching day!

Software Requests
If a staff member is interested in using a particular software program with their students, they should review this request with their supervisor/principal and then submit their request via email to Doug Brower, K-12 Supervisor of Technology, Practical Arts and Business. The request will then be reviewed and decided upon by the district Technology Committee. Teachers should not be purchasing subscriptions on their own and then registering students which includes passing along student information such as email addresses.
