"The New Colossus" by Emma Lazarus.
With conquering limbs astride from land to land;
Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand
A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame
Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name
Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand
Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command
The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.
“Keep, ancient lands, your storied pomp!” cries she
With silent lips. “Give me your tired, your poor,
Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,
The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.
Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me,
I lift my lamp beside the golden door!”

Staff Spotlight: Cedric Deason, Therapeutic Behavioral Strategist
As some people may know, he is the Therapeutic Behavioral Strategist, and you may have seen him in your classes doing presentations or offering individual support. Though he is happy to be a Mountain Lion now, in his academic career he has also been a Thunderbird (elementary school), Roadrunner (middle school), Mustang (high school), and Aggie (college). Aggie is the mascot from UC Davis, where his favorite classes were Sociology and African-American Studies. "I have always been interested in the study of people and interaction! And I felt it was powerful to learn about my history," he said about his favorite classes. His hobbies include bowling, cooking, golfing, hanging out with friends and family, and watching movies. His favorite movies are Forrest Gump, Finding Forrester, Men of Honor, and The Lion King. He also loves books! His favorite books are I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings by Maya Angelou, Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki, 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman, and most recently Permission to Feel by Marc Brackett. And when it comes to superheroes, his favorites are Black Panther and Iron Man. And his advice for students overcoming obstacles and succeeding in school is this: "Hang in there! I know this year has been challenging but you guys are amazing, and I know you will get through it! Please know you do not have to do it by yourself! You have a team of people here at Morris who care about you and want to see you succeed. I could not be happier to be a Mountain Lion! Please reach out and know that I am here."
Thank you Mr. Deason for sharing these details about yourself. Welcome to Morris!
