Voter Registration
Wednesday, March 22 During Lunch
The League of Women Voters will be here Wednesday, March 22 to register students to vote in local, state, and national elections.
Requirements to Register:
- You must be a citizen of the United States.
- You must be (18) years of age or older on or before the date of the next election.
- You must be a resident of Tennessee. View Guidelines for Determining Residency
- If you have been convicted of a felony, your eligibility to register and vote depends upon the crime you were convicted of and the date of your conviction. If your conviction made you ineligible, you may regain your eligibility if your conviction has been expunged or if you have had your voting rights restored, unless you were convicted of a crime that rendered you permanently ineligible to vote. View Eligibility to Vote after a Felony Conviction.
Mandatory Selective Service Registration for Males
Selective Service registration is required of almost all male US citizens and male immigrants, who are 18 through 25. The registration is used for a military draft in cases of a national crisis. Registering does NOT mean you are in the military.
Immigrants who must register for the Selective Service are the following:
- Permanent resident immigrants (USCIS Form I-551)
- Refugee, parolee, and asylee immigrants
- Undocumented immigrants
- Dual national U.S. citizens
In a draft scenario, men would be called in a sequence determined by random lottery number and year of birth. Then, they would be examined for mental, physical, and moral fitness by the military before being deferred or exempted from military service or inducted into the Armed Forces.
