Two Important Donation Drives at IHMS This Week!
Drive 1
This year our SEEK self-directed learning project is focusing on service-learning! Our community connection focus is to support local pet shelters and their overwhelming needs that have developed since the pandemic. The IHMS KC Pet Project will help give back to this part of the community! Please join us in supporting the shelters who help hundreds of animals in the Kansas City area annually. No monetary donations will be accepted for this particular donation drive. Thank you!
- Merryn Rupp, Emma Walker, & Charlotte Wellman
Drive 2: SafeHome
Sources of Strength student leaders are holding a donation drive for SafeHome, the Johnson County domestic violence shelter. Donated items can be dropped off at the front office and will be collected through May 12.

Vote for Michael at the R&D Forum's Great Pitch!
Hi, my name is Michael Yi.
I am an eighth grader at IHMS. I'm participating in the Next Big Idea contest. Every year as part of the SMSD R&D Forum there are several events, including a pitch contest where participants give a 3–5 minute pitch on an innovative idea. I've been using my SEEK time to develop my pitch, and I'm a finalist. I'll present a live pitch on April 29 at the CAA. There are several awards available. One award is the "People's Choice Award," for a $500 college scholarship. This will be decided by a live voting poll after the pitches. The event will be streamed online, and I would really appreciate it if any of you would be willing to watch the live contest and vote for my pitch.
WHEN:
- April 29
- 9:00 AM-11:30 AM Live Pitches
- 11:30 AM-12:30 PM Open Voting for the People’s Choice Award and Judge Deliberation
- 2:00 PM Awards Ceremony to recognize Next Great Idea and R&D Showcase Award Winners
HOW:
- My pitch will be live-streamed and can be viewed with this link.
- People’s Choice Voting link.
- QR Code is attached.
Note: The survey is currently closed. It will open on Saturday at the appointed time of 11:30 a.m. following the last pitch and will remain open until 12:30 p.m.
- This link allows you to access the awards ceremony, beginning at 2:00 PM.
