GRE Family Gazette
September 8, 2019
Dear GRE Families,
Fall is here-at least for the weekend. It looks like it will get quite toasty again this week but hopefully you were able to get out and enjoy the cooler temperatures this weekend! As we look at the week ahead, we have a five day week packed with fun, friends and learning!
On Friday, we began our Fall Data Team meetings. These meetings are held three times throughout the school year. This is a time where an entire grade level sits together with myself, our School Psychologist, Intervention Specialist and our Instructional Facilitator to look at our Fall benchmark data. During this meeting we talk about success and areas for growth with our building wide data and then we go through and talk about how we will best support students who may be struggling with either academics or socially. As a group of passionate educators, we focus on problem solving to make sure that we know our students and how to best support them. By the end of next week, we will have reviewed Kindergarten through Fourth Grade data. Be sure to look in backpacks a week from Tuesday to find your child's Fall Benchmark Assessment information.
We had a great time with our first Eagles Nests of the year! It was so fun to see our older students leading our younger students. Every staff member in the building has a group of about 15 students from all grade levels that meets to discuss our Keys to Success. As your child about their Eagles Nest!
Here's to a great week!

When: Monday, September 30 at 6:00 pm2. GRE’s Art Day will be on Friday November 8th instead of in the spring! We are looking to bring some new artists to GRE to work with our students and looking for any connections you may have in our community! On Art Day students have the opportunity to work with both a VISUAL artist to make something and a PERFORMING artist to learn how to do something.
If you are an artist or you have any connections to a visual or performing artist who you think would be interested, PLEASE share them through this GRE Art Day- Artist Connections link!
3. As we continue to learn about Schoology we identified that notifications will be easier to view if we push out our information in a group. Therefore, each school has created a family group. Click here to see all building's group codes and to learn about to join a Schoology Group. You can join GRE's family group with the code: N5VZ-VWQC-W7VVZ.
*A quick troubleshooting tip! If you are getting an error when logging into the Schoology app try this! When logging in with the app, instead of selecting GRE as the school, select Big Walnut Local Schools, then login with your information.
4. In an effort to continuously reflect and improve, please take a minute to provide any feedback you have about Curriculum Night here.
5. We are committed to seeking out our military connected families and assisting those families as needed. Should an immediate family member currently be serving in the military, please complete this form.
Special Spotlight: Physical Education with Mrs. Grieger
I am so excited for this school year! Already in PE, we have reviewed standard procedures, played a fun fitness game and completed our Playground Unit. Ask your child (1st-4th) grader how to play a new game called 'Wall Ball' - it was a hit with the older grades. As always, the gaga pit was always full of laughter and friendly competition. We also learned 4 square (3rd-4th graders), tetherball and hula-hoop rock, paper, scissors.
Kindergarten is working on locomotor movement and spatial awareness. We played a game called 'Stump the teacher'! It was fun to see the kids come up with so many creative ideas to try and stump me by acting out different things. They definitely kept me guessing.
We just started our Soccer unit this past week (2nd-4th graders). 3rd and 4th graders learned 6 different foot skills, see if they can demonstrate one or more to you. 2nd grade went on a pretend field trip to the zoo and worked on different soccer skills like animals would play soccer, see if they can show you what the 5 different animals are and how they play soccer.
Congrats to our Golden Spatula Winners!
This week we introduced the "Golden Spatula Award" at lunch time. This prize is awarded to one class at each grade level. Throughout the week, we look for students who are following our lunch room expectations. It was awesome to see the kids get so excited-please help us congratulate our winners for the week of August 26th.
