Week Fifteen Update
We've been working hard on Chapter 4: Multiplying and Dividing Fractions. So far, our students have practiced several methods to multiply proper and improper fractions. We looked for common factors to simplify before multiplying, which made it easier to find the product in simplest form. Students found that drawing pictures often helps to clarify their thinking and to see their answers.
We began exploring how to convert an improper fraction to a mixed number and how to apply this knowledge into a real-world problem. Students are finding that drawing bar models are a great way to solve problems without having to do the math!
Here you can find the virtual text book, workbook pages, and online tutorials. The log in information is on the first page of your students assignment notebook. Find more information on our classroom website by clicking the "Math in Focus" link.
This website was created as a resource for you at home to go to look for ideas to help your students.
Next week we will work on putting this information together to write a well though out and planned response to our reading.
Our personal narratives have been published! This week we wrote fictional narratives in response to the prompt- "If I lived in a snow globe". We took time to plan out our stories and thought of ways to provide our reader with vivid mental images. Students worked hard to apply their ideas into well thought out paragraphs including introductions and conclusion. Way to go 5th grade writers!
If you were out, forgot to write something down, or wanted to double check- here is the link to our Homework Webpage.
Click here a copy of our 40 Book checklist. The number next to each genre is about how many books in that genre that your student should read to get to their goal of 40 books this year!
