FABULOUS START OF THE RACE
Thank you parents and students for a wonderful start to the school year. We have had a great start to the 2015-2016 school year. We are looking forward to all the exciting things that will happen at JBE this year. We can't wait to watch your students #finishtherace
Each year, we use a different hashtag and this year is no different. We encourage you to use the hashtag in your own social media postings about your students on your facebook, twitter or instagram accounts. You can also follow JBE on our social media pages. Links to our social media pages can be found on the school's website. We are using #finishtherace because as part of our school theme this year we are teaching students to work hard and persevere. We are also teaching students that a strong dead last finish beats did not finish which always beats did not start. We have exciting things planned and we thank you for sharing your student with us in this race.
JBE MUSICAL
The school wide musical this year will be Disney's Winnie the Pooh:Kids.
This spring production, March 3rd-5th, is open to all students in grades 1-5. Tryout sign up sheets are at Mrs. Fischer's classroom door. All sign up sheets for tryouts must be turned in no later than Wednesday, September 16th. No late forms will be accepted. Tryouts will be held afterschool on September 21st-25th. Students will receive their tryout day and time on Friday, September 18th.
Early Release Day-September 16th
All Spartanburg School District 7 schools will have 4 early release Wednesdays this year in order for teachers to engage in professional development to further increase their skills in best practice for our students. The dates of those early release days are: September 16th, November 18th, February 10th, and April 20th.
Students will be dismissed at 11:25am. Students will have lunchtime prior to dismissal on our early release day. Because these days are a bit different than our normal dismissal days, we ask that you put in writing any change in your student's normal transportation procedure. Please send that in to your child's teacher.

Dismissal
You may have noticed a few changes to the dismissal process this year. The first is that we are dismissing 5 minutes later this year. Instead of 2:20, our dismissal process begins at 2:25. Additionally, the gate where car riders are dropped off and picked up is locked every morning after arrival and not opened until right before dismissal. While this may create the traffic to be a little more backed up prior to dismissal, we believe that the safety of having the gate locked during the school day is important for our students and staff. Here are some dismissal procedure regulations that may help:
*Due to supervision issues, students cannot be dismissed from the office after 2:10
*If your student is a walker and you are choosing to pick them up in a vehicle, you must park the car on the street. We cannot, for the safety of our students, have moving cars in the front loop where our walkers are located.
*Students in grades K and 1st are not allowed to walk home alone. An adult or an older sibling must accompany the student.
*Car drop off begins at 7:15 in the 2nd-5th grade loop and at 7:30 in the K-1 loop.
*Any child eating breakfast at JBE must be dropped off in the 2nd-5th grade car loop. Breakfast ends at 7:45am to ensure students arrive to class on time at 7:50am.
*Students cannot be dropped off in the front of the school. Car riders must be dropped off in the car loop.
*For drop off in the car line, have your student on the passenger side. Getting out on the left side of the car is a safety hazard.
*The school day begins at 7:50am and the car rider doors are then locked. Students arriving after the 7:50am bell will need to have their parent walk them into the office and have them signed in tardy.
*We have two car lines and line splits near the gate. The right lane is for Kindergarten and 1st grade students and their siblings. There is no need to go through 2 lines if you have a younger and an older student. The left lane is for students in grades 2-5.
*With the help of our faculty and safety patrol we load students as fast as possible. However, we ask that you not pass vehicles in the car line unless instructed by a school official and we hope you will understand that teachers cannot conference with you during car line.
*We will occasionally, due to weather or other related factors, have an indoor dismissal. When this occurs, the traffic circle will take a bit longer.
*Students not picked up by 2:45pm will be taken to the front office. Parents will need to come in and sign out students who are not picked up on time.
*We certainly want to get your in and out of the traffic circle as quickly as possible; yet, we will not compromise safety in order to do so. We thank you in advance for doing all you can do to help make our arrival and dismissal safe for all students.
