Principal's Message
We feel that it is important to relay with our families the safeguards in place and resources available to all of our students and their families. Student safety will always remain at the forefront of all that we do here at TRIN. During this week and over the next few, TRIN will be working and meeting with students and staff to ensure our students know how to access the resources they need to feel safe and successful at school.
Our school counselors are readily available to meet with students upon request. Our counselors are also available to speak with parents that may share their child's concern with us. If you feel that your child is in need of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us. If the issue is time-sensitive or is urgent and needs immediate assistance, please utilize the resources available to everyone:

Beginning last week and continuing throughout this week, and ongoing, our building administrators, counselors, teachers and support staff have been engaged in discussions and lessons to offer an ear, have a discussion, and talk about resources in our schools, district, and community that can provide support for any traumatic or everyday situation for which a student might need support. It is extremely important that our students and families know we are here to listen and support them.
We have also have been using time throughout the school day to review our school and student expectations and Code of Conduct. We feel that it is important to review these guidelines and expectations so that everyone can feel safe at school. We ask that you echo these expectations and guidelines with your child/children. We would also like to partner with our parents in having discussions with our students about the impact of social media and cyberbullying. Cell phones are not permitted here at TRIN and we are asking for the support of our families to extend the same message. We also ask our parents to monitor their child/children's activity on social media. It is important for all of us to be guiding our children on how to communicate with one another effectively, positively, with sensitivity and kindness. It is equally important for our community partnership to guide our students in successfully navigating conflict through effective conflict resolution strategies. Our teachers and counselors will be working with our students to continue to develop and strengthen these skills. Through our partnership at home, we can make a great difference in our school community.
Please see an article on some effective ways to help your child respond to cyberbullying.
Thank you for your partnership in our school community and culture. We will continue to provide support and resources for our students, families, and staff. Together, we know we can make a difference, and continue to have a positive impact on the lives of our students and your children.
Have a wonderful long weekend,
Lynn Fronzak

In Ocean County, drug abuse has grown rapidly. It is important to educate students on the dangers associated with substance use to prevent this problem before it is too late. Recently, the Ocean County Health Department provided Intermediate North’s Health Classes with a presentation entitled, #Drugcode. This presentation is an interactive program that discusses alcohol, marijuana and vaping in a way that best meets the needs of the students.
This program has been developed for middle school students grades 6, 7 and 8 with the main goals of increasing student’s education about the dangers and health risks associated with vaping, marijuana and alcohol along with the understanding of the “Save a Life” law.

The more involved you are in your teen's life, the less likely he or she is to drink, smoke, or use drugs. Here are some ways to be supportive:
Build your teen's self-esteem. During the teen years, the body changes, emotions run high, and moods swing. It can be a confusing time for both you and your teen. Listen to your teen, and be careful not to judge. Let your teen know that their feelings are important. This helps build self-esteem. If your teen has the confidence, assertiveness, and strength to handle tough times, they will be less likely to try drugs, alcohol, and tobacco to feel better or to please friends.
Keep tabs on your teen. Know how much time your teen spends unsupervised. Studies show that having a lot of unsupervised time can make a teen more likely to try drugs. Help them choose healthy leisure activities.
Know their friends. Discourage your teen from having friends that use drugs, alcohol, or tobacco. Peer pressure is a powerful influence on teens.
Be a role model. If you smoke or use alcohol or drugs, chances are your teen will, too. If you smoke or have a problem with alcohol or drugs, get help. Call a local substance use treatment center or an organization such
as Alcoholics Anonymous , Narcotics Anonymous, or Nicotine Anonymous .
Let your teen see your efforts to kick a substance use habit. Or ask a
relative or friend who is trying to quit smoking, drinking, or using drugs to
talk with your teen about how strong the addiction is.
Ask for help. Raising children is complicated, and you may need help. Think about taking a parenting class or going to a family counselor. Hospitals and community centers often offer such classes. Your teen's healthcare provider can help you find one.
