Soup-alooza Food Drive
Coon Rapids High School is hosting a "SOUP-ALOOZA" food drive to support the "Toys for Joy Project" that assists families in Northern Anoka County, and we need your help to make this a success!
The SOUP-ALOOZA food drive will be from December 6th-10th. Food donations will be collected in students’ 1st hour class. Please bring in cans of soup or other nonperishable food items to help make the food drive a success- any amount helps in making sure we can help families in need! Last year CRHS collected around 2000 food items, let’s see if we can surpass that this year!

Illness Prevention Strategies from the School Nurse
Lowering temperatures, increased indoor close contact, and the lifting of the mask mandate this year have led to an increase in the number of students and staff with infectious diseases. Colds, flu (including influenza A,) COVID, bronchitis, pneumonia, and mono have all been reported to the health office. These illnesses are mainly spread by direct transmission through body fluids or airborne droplets (touching, kissing, coughing, sneezing, talking) or indirect transmission (touching contaminated objects.) Oftentimes, individuals are the most contagious to others before they begin experiencing the major symptoms of an illness, and this has a direct impact on the transmission rate of these diseases.
CRHS is doing their part to help minimize the spread of illness: the school is equipped with bipolar ionization units with highly rated Minimum Efficiency Reporting Value (MERV) filters, and the custodial staff is working hard to continually sanitize public spaces with safe and effective disinfectants. However, the number one prevention for the spread of disease, according to the CDC, is proper handwashing. Please remind your students to do their part and to be mindful of this healthy habit, especially before eating and after bathroom use.
Although masks are now optional, students are free to wear a mask at school if they are wanting to minimize their exposure to illness. Please continue to assess your student’s health each day and make sure they are feeling well enough to make it through the school day. The district policy is that if a student has thrown up, has diarrhea, or has a fever of 100.0 or above, they must remain at home until they are free from these symptoms for at least 24 hours. If we all work together to follow these policies and guidelines, students will be able to maintain optimal health and maximize their academic achievement!

Senior "Ads for Grads" for the 2022-2023 Yearbook
Senior Parents-
Senior Year is an important milestone in many student's lives and it’s important to find creative ways to commemorate your student’s senior year, celebrate all of their hard work and accomplishments throughout their school career, and let them know that you love and are proud of them. A fun and easy way to do this is to place a recognition ad, or an “Ad for Grads”, in the 2022-2023 Yearbook. This is something that your student can look back on for years to come.
It is very simple to create an “Ad for Grad.” Just visit www.jostensadservice.com and you can begin creating your ad today using your favorite photos of your son or daughter and a personal message. You can choose any photos you like: a baby photo, a grade school photo, or just a photo of your student that you love--you can even take a picture of the photo you want to use and upload that image from your phone.
- Photos may be in color or black and white, and you pick the fonts and background.
- Ads are available in two different sizes, 1/4 page for $60 or 1/8 page for $40.
- The Ads for Grads deadline is January 13, 2023.
If you have any questions or need tips on how to upload the pictures you want to use, please email Kari Berg at karilee.berg@ahschools.us or check out this sheet from Jostens with FAQs.

Check out our three of our CRHS DECA Alumni and what they are doing now!
Nicole Dupont, CRHS, Class of 2017
What do you remember most about your experiences in CRHS DECA?
I loved being involved in CRHS DECA, so there are so many memorable moments. One of the craziest memories is completing 24 hour kickball! Some of my favorite memories are from competitions. Whether it is the competitive events themselves, the chapter dinners, or the DECA cup, I always left the event with new knowledge, new friendships, and new memories.
How did your high school experience help you once you entered college?
My high school experience, specifically my involvement in DECA, helped me choose my majors in college. Without DECA, I would have never pictured myself in marketing or finance. My leadership experiences in high school gave me the resources and confidence to hold leadership roles in college student groups, which carried through to my work roles as well.
What are you currently doing?
I am a Financial Planning Analyst for the Pool Business at Pentair in the Finance Leadership Development Program.
Jack Bosak, CRHS, Class of 2015
What do you remember most about your experiences in CRHS DECA?
I remember that I was given the people skills I was lacking. I was able to grow as a working professional by working with people much older than me in competitions. Mr B really helped give me the push I needed. I truly believe without CRHS DECA I would still struggle more than I do with talking with people in a professional setting.
How did your high school experience help you once you entered college.
I was given a lot of freedom in high school and that really helped me decide what I wanted to do with my life. I was able to decide that I wanted to go to a tech school rather than a 4-year college rather because of how much I enjoyed all of the shop classes I took my senior year of high school.
What are you currently doing? title, position, and company
I am currently a Tool Designer at Medtronic designing tools in Creo that aid in making parts that often save lives. I also run my own tree company on the side cutting down and trimming trees all over Minnesota.
Lindsey Koehler, CRHS, Class of 2017
What do you remember most about your experiences in CRHS DECA?
I remember so many great things about my experience in CRHS DECA that it is hard to narrow it down to one or two. It would be impossible to forget something as incredible as DECA. Some of my favorite memories are of the moments bonding with the chapter in between events, competing at the International Career Development Conference, and managing the Cardinal Image. However, I will never forget the excitement for the future that DECA instilled in me. I grew into who I was through DECA, and I now aim to live life with the same enthusiasm and gratitude I always felt when completing a competitive event. As time went on, DECA integrated to become a part of who I am and will always be a part of me. I could not be more grateful for the life skills and opportunities that DECA provided me.
How did your high school experience help you once you entered college?
Once I entered college, I found many of the skills that I perfected in high school through DECA beneficial. I was sure of my abilities to be a great leader and was excited to take on new leadership roles. I also found myself more confident in public speaking, whether that was through club leadership positions or giving presentations during class. When it came time to interview for graduate school, I was secure in my ability to interview effectively based on the skills I had honed during my time with CRHS DECA and obtained acceptances to several schools. I have DECA and Mr. B to thank for helping me get to where I am today!
What are you currently doing? title, position, and company.
I am a second-year graduate student at the University of Minnesota School of Dentistry.
