TLC School Improvement Update
ATTENDANCE--We want every student to have a minimum of 85% attendance for the entire school year.
ACADEMIC GROWTH--We want every student to meet or exceed their MAP Reading and Math Growth Goal
LIFE READINESS--We want every student to meet the requirement for post secondary readiness according to the Kentucky Department of Education.
Attendance Please continue to encourage your students to attend school regularly. Last year our average daily attendance was 80%. This year, our average daily attendance is 83%. We are excited for this progress, but we must continue to push for improvement. How can you help? 1. Make sure excuse notes are returned with three days of the students return to school and include:
2. Refer your student for mental health services if that is affecting their attendance: Counseling Consent Form 3. Reach out to your student's Advisory teacher for support. | Academic Growth As I mentioned in the last monthly update, this year we are focusing on student academic growth through the MAP Math and Reading test. To support this goal, we are focusing on literacy in all of our classes. Ms. Tongate, our librarian, has been leading this literacy initiative through monthly challenges. Please check out October's monthly challenge. Student are encouraged to read one book and one magazine using the online resources available through our library. Students begin each B4 class with 15 minutes of silent sustained reading (SSR). In addition each B4 class is reading The Boy in the Striped Pajamas together. How can you help?
| Life Readiness The most important focus for all of the TLC community is to ensure that all of our students graduate "life ready." It is an expectation that 100% of all of our students will graduate. We met this goal last year. However, we need the help of our families and communities to ensure that our students are ready to be productive members of society and are able to pursue their dreams after they graduate from TLC. One important aspect of being prepared for life after high school is the ACT. The ACT is a placement test that all students at TLC will take in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade. This test is important for admission to college and for scholarships. How can you help?
