Welcome Back!

Welcome Back!

I’ve always thought one of the perks of being in education was the fact that no two days are ever the same when you’re with kids. Each and everyday is filled with something new and interesting to learn and heading into this year that will continue to be true for a number of other reasons. That said, I want to assure families that regardless of our circumstances, our focus will still be to ensure that every child, every day:

  • is feeling connected,
  • is being challenged by new learnings and experiences,
  • knows they have a caring adult they can rely on.

Our entire school community is as committed as ever to maintaining the highest expectations so that there will be no shortage of opportunities for your children to feel challenged on a daily basis and provide a wide variety of options to stay connected to our school, our staff, and their friends. We know it is our ability to balance empathy and high expectations so well here at Edison that so many of you entrust us with the education of your children.

And for all those of you who weathered the supply pick up with us this past Tuesday, I thank you for your grace. I was immensely grateful for the compassion and patience demonstrated by so many of you, and the amazing efforts of so many of our staff to step up and support when the tide came in. Together, we were able to place materials and supplies into the hands of all but 4 of our 726 Edison Bobcats before the first day of school! We still anticipate receiving our new iPads for all of our TK and Kindergarten students near the end of August. In the meantime, our amazing TK and Kinder team is ready to fill that space!

Again, thank you for the amazing support as we begin our school year. We look forward to another successful year filled with a myriad of opportunities for all of us to learn, play and grow together!

Stay safe, and stay #EdisonStrong!

Back to School Night - August 13, 2020, 5:00 pm - 6:30 pm

Our Back to School Night will be conducted online this year and families will have an opportunity to visit their children’s teachers in much the same way as we have in the past with two rotations for parents to visit multiple teachers. Parents can expect to receive Zoom invitations from their child’s teachers next week. Starting Wednesday, parents may also visit the Parent section of our school website for a listing of all our classroom session links, just click on Parents and select Back to School Night.

School Site Council - Be the Change, Volunteer and Make a Difference

We are excited to offer parent involvement opportunities again this year! The first is to be a member of our School Site Council (SSC). The SSC makes decisions on the focus of our funding and the allocation of resources to support our school community.

This year we will have two open positions and we would love for you to think about, and nominate parents who you believe will be able to participate in the decision-making process here at Edison Academy. You only need to enter the name of the person you choose (you may nominate yourself) and indicate their affiliation with the school, i.e. parent or community member. That’s it! At this time, meetings would be held virtually, and we would return to on-site meetings when we are cleared to begin the hybrid school model. Meetings will be held Monday afternoons at 1:30 pm. via zoom. Nominations will be accepted until Friday, August 21. Get involved! Online Nomination Form: https://forms.gle/Bvwtc7gSWfRS8Ji56

What is School Loop?

School Loop is a communication app that allows parents and students to keep in touch with their Middle School teachers. School Loop keeps families and educators in touch regarding grades, homework, and Middle School related news.

Given our current online learning model, it is more important than ever that our 6-8 grade families get connected to their child’s School Loop account. Being connected will allow families to consistently stay informed about their child’s progress and their school activities. For our incoming 6th grade students and/or new families to Edison, it is critical you sign-up for School Loop today, and be sure to download your School Loop app on your mobile device ( Apple | Android ) -- get started today!

If you need help connecting to your child’s account,or need their ID and PIN number please call the school office at (909)984-5618.

ClassDojo | TK-5 Grade

We’ve added a new channel to our school wide communication in TK-5 this year, and in just the short time since we’ve been back we can already see that Class Dojo will prove to be a great tool for us to share reminders and snapshots of what’s happening here. That said, we know it is not the best tool for us to use when it comes to discussing individual students or situations. Thank you in advance for being mindful of student privacy and continuing to contact us directly; either by phone, email, or video chat when you have any questions or concerns. We will use Class Dojo and our other additional outlets, Twitter, Black Board SMS messages, and YouTube to share timely reminders, announcements, and even snippets or snapshots of learning and fun on our virtual campus with you. Download the app today and get connected ( Apple | Android )

We Need Your Help | School Lunch Applications

Our students benefit immensely when our families complete a lunch application. Our school’s funding can be affected greatly by our increased participation in the school lunch program, and even if you don’t meet the free and reduced lunch thresholds, as a school we can report that 100% of our families support our efforts to fully fund our school -- thank you for submitting your application online today! Online Meal Application

Our regular lunch program will resume daily meal service from 11:15 am - 1:00 pm everyday. Breakfast, lunch and supper, meals will be provided curbside on Sultana Avenue alongside our MPR. Parents may pick up meals without students being present by bringing their child’s lunch ID card.

1:1 Mobile Devices | Chromebooks and iPads

In addition to ensuring all students have access to our online learning platform, the goal of our 1:1 mobile device take home program is to prepare students for 21st century college and career readiness skills. As 21st century citizens, we want our students to utilize technology in innovative and creative ways. As staff, we will continue to re-examine the ways we deliver instruction and facilitate learning for our students. Thank you for joining us in this exciting endeavor! Families can learn more about their child’s device, helpful tips, and information on how to insure their device against damage by visiting the OMSD Parent Portal.
