WMS Principal Update
Distance Learning 2020
May 4, 2020
Good afternoon Woodbury Middle School;
Happy first week of May everyone, and what an incredible weekend. My neighborhood was abuzz with people doing yard work, walking, and some, just enjoying the sun. It was great to see everyone smiling and enjoying this beautiful spring weekend.
As I write, New York state announced on Friday that schools are closed for the rest of the year, and New Jersey followed suit today. Hopefully, our Governor will inform us soon of the status of our schools.
Vision of the Learner
Most of you received a letter from our Coordinator of Teaching and Learning last week asking you to complete a short survey supporting the Region 14 Vision of the Learner (Community Letter). If you have not completed the survey, please do so as it is essential to the future of the students in Region 14. Also, feel free to share this with community members as it is the goal of the VOL coalition to get as much information as possible.
Teacher Appreciation Week
With Distance Learning 7 weeks in, what better way to say thank you to our teachers than with a special note from a student. Maybe a note to that teacher that has helped students during difficult times or that special adult who is just always there. Either way, our teachers are here for our students unconditionally. Our usual celebration of this week needs some help. Those special lunches will have to be rescheduled, and those personal gifts celebrating our teachers will not be delivered. We know everyone is extremely busy, but if you have a moment, please ask your student to take a few minutes to thank that special teacher. Their words will make all the difference.
Last week we took some great pictures of our kids in a zoom classroom for our yearbook. There are a few samples below.
WMS Social Media Challenge: In an attempt to keep students connected with our school community, we have created #WMSCreates2020 for students to follow. We challenge students and our entire community (parents, staff, and siblings) to create something using found objects or just your creativity. Think of music, art, food, writing, fitness, trick shots, technology, etc. Send your entries to ashuhart@ctreg14.org or have students upload to the WMS Family folder under the WMSCreates assignment. We are posting on both Instagram and Twitter under #WMSCreates2020, or you can look to Twitter (@Woodbury_MSLMC) and Instagram (@wms_lmc_2020). Show us what you can do WMS!!
Stay Well,
Bill Nemec
