As our Year 4 students have begun their recent unit of inquiry based on a paperless, digital world I have once again been reminded of how important it is for us to ensure that we are working closely with our children to help them with their online behaviour.

In Year 1

In Year 1 the children understand the essential components needed for a good animation and have been exploring stop motion animation apps on both android and IOS tablets. They have been collaborating and creating stories with characters, settings and props that they crafted themselves. The children have also been developing their knowledge of plant life cycles online.

In Year 2

In Year 2 the children are learning to navigate and troubleshoot around Google Maps. They have been planning various journeys around Hong Kong and are investigating into all the different ways, and transportation need, to get from one place to another. I am almost certain that means that every child will become experts at making their way to Disneyland or Ocean Park! The children will also continue to develop their typing and finger placement skills and will move onto showing their learning of public transport on Lucidchart.

In Year 3

In Year 3 the children were introduced to BHS Social (Yammer) and explored ways to communicate and connect with their peers online. They understand that their rights and responsibilities in the online world and have been working hard to create a positive environment on BHS Social. For the next few weeks, the children will be constructing 3D structures using Google Sketchup in order to develop their knowledge of shapes as well as support their new Unit of Inquiry into homes.

In Year 4

In Year 4 the children have been exploring into what it means to be a respectful digital citizen in the online community. They understand the benefits as well as the safety and security risks of sharing certain information online. They looked at websites they frequently visit and discussed the information they shared online in order to register for an account or interact with others online, and identified the difference between personal and private information. The children also learnt to emphasize with those who receive mean and hurtful messages online and will be generate solutions for dealing with cyberbullying.

In Year 5

In Year 5 the children reviewed the main elements of animations and had a go at creating their own stop motion animations using Google Slides. They will be moving on to creating stop motion animations using Stop Motion Studio on the iPads to show their understanding of their current Unit of Inquiry on Energy.

In Year 6

The year 6 children did an amazing job on their presentations and have now built a nice bank of resources on presentation tools. Throughout this exhibition, children will be working on their research, actions and presentations.
