Getting Ready for PK4
Dear PK4.1 Parents,
We are so excited to be part of this amazing classroom. We are looking forward to seeing all of our children grow to their full potential. We have had a great beginning of the year, especially by having you parents come to our classroom and get your children acquainted with their new school family.
We have been working on learning about our daily routines, and how our schedule works. During these few days we had a chance to get to know our friends, interest areas, specialist teachers and school area. It has been a week full of many opportunities to explore our classrooms and learn to use our materials appropriately. We talked about feelings and we had a fun time talking about Humpty Dumpty and The Three Little Kittens. We had a chance to act out the nursery rhyme as well as watch how Humpty cracked as it fell to the floor. The children had a chance to look and feel both a raw and cooked egg and describe what they were like. Also, there were some pk4.1characters in our room reciting Humpty Dumpty! In general, we can say that the children have been quite busy.
I am sure we will keep it up all year long because PK 4.1 loves having great days, even though some days are not so great, we still make it a great day because we practice I WISH YOU WELL, Be safe, Be Kind, Self-control, be a S.T.A.R ! (STOP, SMILE TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND RELAX).

Activities
Circle Time
We discussed during circle time the following questions:
What names do we need to know at school? friends and teachers
What are rules? When do things happen at school? Schedule /Be Safe, Be kind, Be Ready/You did it/
What should we do if we get sad at school? Conscious Discipline -Safe Place-kissing cup-breathing techniques
Outdoors
We were making a Humpty Dumpty mural for our school. We used chalks to express ourselves. We were practicing collaboration and sharing materials. In Pre-kinder we learn important social skills that help us get along with others.

TIP OF THE WEEK
Reading to our children at least 15 min. every day will help them develop important literacy skills that will support their academic growth in years to come. Our main purpose is to help children understand the purpose of reading and most importantly to help them develop the love for books. Reading a bed time story every night will be a special moment that they will cherish for years to come. You may read in your native language to help reinforce the mother tongue, which is so important in language development.
Here is a short article about reading wordless books that might interest you:

Reminders,
We know how difficult it is to keep track of everyone's belongings, especially when we are doing so many fun things. Therefore, we would really appreciate if you could kindly remember to label your child's lunchbox, containers, sweaters, water bottles etc. This will help them the teachers and students too. As they are learning to read their names and their peers, they can help place them where they belong and it will make the children feel more independent and responsible.
No Toys
Children are asked NOT to bring toys/makeup from home. They are very distracting and we cannot be responsible for lost or broken toys or hurt feelings caused by them.
Family Picture
We will love a picture of your family that we can display in the classroom. Please send your family picture with your child. We cannot guarantee that the picture will be returned to you, so please send one that you are willing to part with!
