Updates and Reminders....
- BOY Testing is upon us! If you have any new student(s) without an NWEA score, please reach out to Mr. J.
- REACH BOY has opened. As soon as the test documents arrive via the mail run, we will place them in your mailbox. (Primary texts are in my office.)
- Primary teachers, please let us know if you need any assistance with DIBELS/TRC.
- Observations begin the week of October 1 with pre observation conferences beginning later next week. Please see the calendar in my office for tentative observation dates. (The teachers that I am observing are written in pink, Gabe's are in blue.) The letter "F" following your name indicates that you will have a formal observation. ("I" is for informal observations.) Formals require a pre and post observation conference. You will receive calendar invites for all observations and conferences--please remember to "accept" the invitation upon receipt.
- If you have enrichment classes that meet 1/2 and 1/2 (culinary, martial arts, dance) please note that they will change at the semester beginning the week of February 4th. (1st through 4th grade classrooms.)
- Restroom use during music, art, culinary (south basement classrooms): For safety purposes we do not like to send primary students into the south restroom. Because of the co-ed nature of the restroom, it is designated for use by supervised students only. Please be mindful of this and make sure that your students use the restrooms before enrichment classes begin.
- Chronic Disease webinar: This very important webinar is a requirement for all CPS employees. Please make sure that you allocate time to view this webinar. An email was sent to you by the Office of Student Wellness with login information. Our expectation is that this webinar is completed by all staff members before the end of this month. (Deadline is September 28th.) If you have any questions, see Mr. Vega.
Protocols for Taking Benefit Days
If you are sick, stay home. It's ok. You must go to Frontline and request sub coverage at least three hours before school begins. (We strongly suggest that you do this the night before.) If you do not follow this step, no sub will be assigned to your classroom. This is not ok.
Text Gina, Jess, Gabe, and me as soon as you know that you are taking a benefit day. This is critical as we will need to follow up with Frontline and deploy resources in the morning.
If you need to take a second day because you're still sick, that's ok too. You must call the office the day of your absence and let us know if you're returning, or if you are taking another day. If you do not follow this step, we will retain the sub and you will be charged for 1/2 day of sub coverage.
Subs are very, very difficult to obtain and if you are sick the more notice you provide to us, and to Frontline, the better.
Personal business days (PB Days) are for personal business that must take place during the school day. They are not vacation days. Sometimes in our lives there are special events that happen that require us to take a pb day (weddings, graduations, memorial services, etc). Please request this day at least 10 days in advance. (Ask me and I'll let you know if the day is available.) This gives us ample time to make sure that a sub is in place. Additionally, we would like to avoid days before and after holidays or on Professional Development Days--only request those days in cases of emergency. (We are limiting the number of approvals to two teachers and one ESP per day. ) See the Employee Handbook for more information on Benefit Days.
The above protocols apply to all staff members, including teachers, security, SECAs and with the exception of Frontline, TAs.
If you do not know how to access Frontline, there are webinars available. It is your professional responsibility to report your absence in Frontline. Upon return, make sure that you document your absence in Kronos.
Staff members that do not follow these protocols may be subject to disciplinary action.
Clerks Corner
Students will be sent to classrooms without tardy slips until the pledge has ended. Once the pledge has been completed any students entering your classroom will need a tardy slip. The office will adjust the attendance for any student that receives a tardy slip.
Forms: Please bring any student forms to the office ASAP. This includes emergency, medical, lunch and photo release forms.
If you haven't done so, please bring your Information Sheets (emergency forms for you!) to the office.
Departmental teachers...have you sent a copy of your departmental schedule to the office?
Don't forget that we open the Main Doors for staff at 7:30. Before 7:30? Use the parking lot entrance.
Be careful not to allow students or parents into the building before 7:50.
Congratulations!
Just Ask Jess!
MTSS: Remember to document any students that are "off track" for reading and/or math. You can access the MTSS tool in your gradebook. If a student is currently showing a "D" or an "F", document what types of interventions that you have used to help them get back on track!
Taking a field trip? Take all asthma pumps, meds, etc. Not sure what to take....Just ask Jess:)
Concerns about specific students, or students that are new to Linne/CPS? Just ask Jess!
ESPecially for ESPs
Remember to revisit your Everyday SEL books. Mr. J will be meeting with you soon to discuss some of the strategies that you have been implementing with students.
Don't forget to "clock in" on time. When you swipe in you should have already put away your personal items and prepared yourself for the day.
