November News
November 18-22
What's new this week:
This week we have focused on Thanksgiving. We have talked about what it means to be thankful and what we are thankful for. We are excited about Grandparents luncheon tomorrow! For content small groups we have worked on sorting color turkeys and graphing, comparing numbers using words more, less and equal, making new shapes out of shape blocks and playdough shapes. For literacy small groups we have worked on recognizing letters and their sounds, beginning sounds, retelling a story, writing letters of the alphabet and lacing beads on pipe cleaners.
This week ends our school Can-a-thon. We have brought in a lot of cans just with our class and met our goal. For our class we had two goals. First, if we brought in 50 cans then we earned a popcorn party. Second goal was to earn a hot chocolate party by bringing in 100. Our class count as of this morning was 117!!
The school still hasn't met their goal of 3400. We need 600 more cans to meet that! Tomorrow (11/21) is the last day to send in cans! Thanks for all of your help!
What's coming up on the calendar:
- T-shirt orders- Last day to order t-shirts is tomorrow 11/21! Please return your form and money by tomorrow!
- Family Science Night- Come join us on Tuesday, December 3 as we complete different science experiments. We will be working with 1st grade and exploring magnets! More information will be coming home.
- Conferences! Parent Teacher Conferences will be held the week of December 9-13. The week after Thanksgiving break we will send home a sign up sheet where you will get to pick days and times that work best for you to come in. The times are first come, first served so send them back in as soon as you get it. :)
Home Connections:
Letter and Number Writing:
Please work on writing the lowercase letters of the alphabet and the numbers 0-9 at home. You can help your child write with pens, pencils, crayons, markers, colored pencils, shaving cream, playdough, etc. Make it fun and enjoy!
Shapes
More, Less, Equal (Same), and Addition!
This week we have been comparing numbers and stating what is more, less, same. A great way to work on this is with playing cards. Today we practiced adding two numbers or set together.
