Lincoln Newsletter
October 25, 2018
Dear Lincoln Community,
We're very pleased to say that our latest series of personalized bricks have been installed in the Peace Garden on Crescent Ave. near the Gym entrance. We raised nearly $1600 through last year's spring fundraiser for our Lincoln Beautification Fund - That's enough to pay for two more murals. Like this one:
Be on the lookout this spring for information on this year's brick sale, and your chance to leave a lasting legacy at Lincoln.
Lincoln Goals for the Year (and next)
At the start of this year, our school leadership team created two goals that we will drive our efforts over the next two years:
- To further deepen our school community that is inviting, safe, inclusive, and supportive of all, we are focusing on Social-Emotional Learning (SEL). We will do this through our monthly ROARS lessons (which I preview with parents every month), special events such as SGA's Red Ribbon Week and St. Baldrick's, and introducing Restorative Practices when addressing student behavior
- To ensure that all students and teachers are engaged in active, purposeful learning, we will be expanding inquiry based learning (IBL) experiences throughout the curriculum.
I will be providing more on SEL and IBL in future newsletters throughout the year.
On behalf of Maine South:
Come to a night of billions of stars!!
(or at least a few dozen, and maybe a planet or two)
The Maine South Astronomy Club will be hosting a community outreach event on the evening of Saturday November 10 starting at 5:30 pm.
In conjunction with Maine South's Schoolwide Fundraiser supporting the Dup15q Alliance, admission will be $3 per individual and $5 for families of 3 or more people. There will be a chance to purchase raffle tickets to win prizes, with proceeds split between the Schoolwide Fundraiser and the Astronomy Club.
The evening will begin with a series of five minute lectures in the school library. After about 30 minutes, we will walk out to the school's north field, and we will help people make observations with the school's telescopes. This is designed for people who are astronomy curious from ages 8 through 80! We plan to end the evening by 7 pm or so.
We are asking that people register by e-mailing Tom Egan at tegan@maine207.org so that we can contact interested persons in the event of inclement weather and cancellation.
Calendar Notes:
- Official Halloween Trick & Treat hours in Park Ridge are October 31, 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
- Please remember to set your clock back an hour Saturday night November 4th for the end of Daylight Savings Time.
- There is no school Tuesday November 6th due to a teacher Institute Day.
- There is no school the week of Thanksgiving.

We just finished learning to play the Harry Potter game of Quidditch. Wow, what a high energy level game.
Our 8th annual Student Faculty Co-ed Volleyball tournament will be starting in November. We always have close to 40 teams competing every year. Your team will either play in Pool 1-November 13th and 27th or Pool 2-December 17th and 18th. The top five teams from each pool with play for the Golden Volleyball trophy Thursday December 20th. Team roster sheets will be available Monday October 29th from the PE teachers. Pool listings will be posted on the bulletin board across from the trophy cases. Captains are responsible for making sure your team shows up for the 2 dates of your pool play.
A Note from District 64 School Health Services
To all District 64 Families:
Autumn days predictably bring cooler weather, changing colors and of course, cold and flu season. Since influenza viruses vary from year to year, it may be difficult to predict the flu season's beginning and peak. Flu activity in the U.S. peaks between December and February, but can begin as early as October and continue to occur as late as May.
To prepare your family for the 2018-19 Influenza Season, please visit the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) for basic flu facts, prevention tips, and treatment information by clicking here.
