COMING SOON - Return to In-Person Learning

Plans were announced this week for the return of students to in-person instruction over the course of the next several weeks. I hope that you received the detailed communication from the Superintendent. Starting next week, a small group of students in our special education programs will return to the building. During the week of October 5th, our 6th grade students will return. Our 7th and 8th grade students will return in stages during the week of October 12th. Of course, not all students will be back. To date, about 25% of our students plan to remain fully-virtual through, at least, mid-January and the end of the 2nd marking period. I hope that this chart will help you to know what to expect over the next few weeks. As I am sure you can appreciate, the transition weeks will require a great deal of effort to orient students to required safety procedures. On the transition days for each grade level, our teachers will focus their attention on our in-person students. All other students will access their lessons asynchronously on those days. Once we have transitioned all cohorts back to the building, we will resume synchronous instruction for all students.

Technology Notes - Important Zoom Updates

In an effort to increase the security of the learning environment in Zoom, we are making an important update that will occur on Wednesday morning. Effective on Wednesday, students MUST access teachers' Zoom links directly from each teacher's Schoology page. Any saved links will no longer work. When preparing for the school day, students should have the Schoology tab open on their computer. Again, this will be the only way to access Zoom. Watch this quick tutorial that explains exactly how to find the new links.

Also, Zoom itself has released some updates today to the Chromebook app. As a result, all students should restart their Chromebooks over the weekend. Then, students follow the quick steps in this tutorial.

Clubs, Activities, & Intramural Sports

Students began the week by attending our Club & Activity Fair. While this year's fair was virtual, students were still able to learn a little bit about many of the activities that will be available this school year. At this time, we are planning for the groups to meet virtually on designated days beginning at 3:00 PM. Clubs are expected to begin meeting in the coming weeks. Students should look for information from the advisors and also listen carefully to the daily announcements. Starting later in October, once students have made the transition to in-person instruction, we will begin to offer a slate of intramural sports activities that will be available to students in all grades. These intramural activities will take the place of our normal interscholastic sports season.

For your planning purposes, bus schedules for the school year have been posted to the Rose Tree Media School District Website.

Library Books Available

Even while students work and learn from home, our Library is happy to provide contactless pick-up and drop-off of books for our students. We want our students to be reading and we want them to have easy access to the books that they would like to enjoy. Mrs. Ekstrom has created a short presentation that explains how students can search our catalog and arrange to borrow a book. Encourage your child to take advantage of this opportunity!

Live School & Spartan Bucks

All families should have received a letter in the mail recently with instructions for how to access Live School. We use Live School as the "bank account" for students and parents to track Spartan Bucks. Teachers are able to award Spartan Bucks to reinforce desired behavior and to recognize students for demonstrating the 4Rs - Ready, Respectful, Responsible, & Resilient. While the password sheet includes a spot for parent signature and indicates that the sheet should be returned to school, we are NOT collecting the forms.

Coming Soon...Students will begin to have opportunities to redeem their earned Spartan Bucks!

REMINDER - Back-to-School Forms & Electronic Acknowledgement

With students beginning to return to school, it is critical that we have a Student Emergency Card back from each person. You may drop off your signed emergency card to the Main Office, you may mail it to us, or simply send in with your child.

In addition, we have also created a quick, electronic process to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement and the technology forms, if you still need to do so. Please help our wonderful clerical staff by taking two minutes to complete this process as soon as possible. PLEASE NOTE - EVERYONE needs to submit the Student Handbook Acknowledgement.

Grab-and-Go Breakfast & Lunch Available

Even while students are learning virtually, our Food Services Department will be making breakfast and lunch available to interested students and families. Meals are being distributed from Penncrest High School and Media Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Specific details are posted on the Rose Tree Media School District Website.
