Every Student! Every Day!

The cool temperatures, sunshine, and lower pollen levels have made for a fabulous weekend! All the dogwoods and azaleas blooming make the neighborhood look beautiful! Great time of year for walking and enjoying the beauty of the season! I hope you enjoyed the weekend.

Starting strong is easy, but finishing strong takes effort and vision! We must FINISH strong this year!! Right now before you read any further take a moment and define for yourself what you want to accomplish and what you want your students to accomplish during the next 8 weeks. How can we cross the finish line if we don't have a clear focus on where it is?

"If you aim at nothing, then you will hit it every time." Zig Zigler

I promise the school year will end soon and summer break will happen! But until then don't phone it in! Don't go through the day on cruise control. Don't just go through the motions. Instead....

Be intentional about making each day count!

Focus on what is really important and the rest will eventually get done. Don't sweat the small stuff.

Make sure you are planning to cover all of the standards and IF your students master them all before the end of the year, go back and review the areas where they struggled this year. Make every minute and day count! If you quit early, they will too!

Most importantly choose to enjoy your students these last weeks. Take each day as a gift and opportunity. Some days you may have to fake it until you make it! How do you want to be remembered? Tired and crabby or smiling, teaching, and enthusiastic. These last weeks are valuable and you still have the power to make a difference!

Have a great week of learning!

Data Meeting Reflection

Our Data Meeting Wednesday afternoon was outstanding. As we move forward it is critical we know where we are now to determine our next steps. Wednesday we saw a very big picture of our school. In many ways it brought more questions than answers. I heard many of you asking for more information and more details. However, we were still able to draw some conclusions and start considering ways we need to improve. We will zoom in to get a more accurate picture as we look at department data. Once we zoom in again, we will be looking at the details of our individual students. Our school, department, and grade level goals will be easier to determine the more information we have. Our PST teams will be more productive when we all are speaking the same language and are clear on what is happening in our building. Using a variety of lenses and then going from big picture zooming the individual pixels become more clear. The ultimate purpose is to gain an opportunity for us to really understand the HJHS culture of learning. My goal is for HJHS to be a STUDENT DRIVEN school using our data to make informed decisions as we go!

Dawn has been compiling your comments from the charts and your and your "causation" sheets. If you haven't turned in your sheet to Dawn, please give her your thoughts and ideas. This is a first step in our school-wide improvement plan process.

Great work everyone! THANK YOU!
